Description
Sheol is a theatrical séance and a contemporary lamentation for the dead and the undead, the born and the unborn, inspired by Górecki’s Symphony No.3 and Chagall paintings. Performance with live music and extraordinary density, as if performers bodies were at once both a sound and an instrument. Sheol is a story about the desire and will to live a life that is full and vibrant. Created by Total Theatre Award and Herald Angel winner, director Jaroslaw Fret. Grotowski Institute residence at Fringe supported by Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland. Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. My theatre director daughter thought it was very impressive and skilled but underdeveloped, a fussy work in progress not getting to the shaped form with choices (like, is it an experience or a storytelling? Completely different arc, form and meaning making process.)
I just loathed it, from being made to stand in the rain for 10 minutes after being summoned listening to 2 short bursts of sententious trumpet until 'they were ready to admit us to the performance which they had already started'. And if about grief for a stillbirth, why a 5yr old party?

Music, performances, staging and venue all top class. It's about as far from easy viewing as it's possible to get. Obtuse, and difficult and dark. Occasionally moving and thought provoking. I loved it. My wife said she felt she got her £20.00 of what the ****.
