Why do we need support?

The Edinburgh Fringe is the greatest arts festival on the planet, taking place each August in Edinburgh, the world’s festival city.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe isn’t just the largest arts festival in the world. It is also the world’s most established and oldest open access arts festival. This fundamental principle of open access means that the Fringe is a magnet for creative people from around the world who flock to Edinburgh in August, to bring the best talent, and the best entertainment to this wonderful capital city. The Fringe is made up of the visions and ambitions of thousands of participants, from producers and promoters, to venue managers and individual performers.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, a registered charity, is the company that organises the structure that underpins the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and fundamentally exists to:

  • provide support, advice and encouragement to all the amazing artists, producers and venues who create the Fringe each year, from help with choosing a venue or writing a press release, to advice on touring, free access to rehearsal space, and professional development activities and events
  • assist the audiences who come by helping you navigate what’s on offer with comprehensive, accurate and up-to-date information and ticketing
  • promote this wonderful and unique festival to the rest of the world

The Fringe Society works year-round to support the Fringe; however the level of commitment required for such an undertaking would not be possible if it weren’t for the enthusiasm of the people of Edinburgh, combined with the long standing support of our audiences, sponsors, supporters and the goodwill of the Friends of the Fringe and Fringe Angels. The Fringe Society strives to provide support that exceeds participant and public expectations and we ask you to join us in supporting this challenge.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe has nurtured incredible talent from Emma Thompson to Derek Jacobi, Graham Norton to Eddie Izzard. We need your support to ensure Edinburgh continues to host the greatest show on earth each August, and so we can continue to nurture and encourage new creative talent across the whole spectrum of the arts.

Every penny you give makes a difference. Helping us to develop the services we provide for the performers and audience members who flock to Edinburgh each and every year.
