Author of global bestseller When China Rules the World, published 2009, updated 2012 and 2016, translated into 17 languages, sold over 400,000. Shortlisted for two major literary awards. His TED talk on understanding China has 5m views. Until recently a Senior Fellow at Cambridge University. Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University, Beijing, Fudan University, Shanghai and Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Singapore. Previously Senior Research Fellow at IDEAS think tank and London School of Economics. Formerly editor Marxism Today, co-founder of Demos think tank, deputy editor of The Independent. Doctorate from King’s College, Cambridge.

General venue access

  • Accessible entry: Stand 3 is accessible from the pavement with steps leading to a courtyard. The venue is situated in the basement part of the building. There are 15 steps in total with a 90 degree turn on a stone staircase with handrails. Once inside the Stand 3 has a further 3 steps indoors before leading to the main space. Staff are always available to assist, however we cannot help to carry customers.
  • Wheelchair access type: Not fully wheelchair accessible

  • Stairs: 11- 20
    Number of stairs is provided as guidance and is not in addition to any wheelchair access type (lift/ramp etc) stated above.

How and when to make an access booking

Our access tickets service is available to anyone who:

  • Would like to book specific accessibility services, e.g. a hearing loop, audio description headsets, captioning units, seating in relation to the location of the BSL interpreter
  • Requires extra assistance when at a venue
  • Has specific seating requirements
  • Is a wheelchair user
  • Requires a complimentary personal assistant ticket to attend a performance
