Description

British-Palestinian Associate Professor of Surgery. Worked at the Beirut Medical Center from 2011 until returning to UK in 2020. Published extensively on health consequences of prolonged conflict and war injuries. As a war surgeon, he has operated in Yemen, Iraq, Syria, South Lebanon and Gaza. He worked in Shifa Hospital and Al-Ahli-Baptist Hospital for 43 days during the conflict in Gaza. His evidence contributed to the South African submission to the International Court of Justice concerning the Gaza conflict. Trustee of UK Medical Aid for Palestinians. Elected Rector of University of Glasgow March 2024.

General venue access

  • Accessible entry: Stand 3 is accessible from the pavement with steps leading to a courtyard. The venue is situated in the basement part of the building. There are 15 steps in total with a 90 degree turn on a stone staircase with handrails. Once inside the Stand 3 has a further 3 steps indoors before leading to the main space. Staff are always available to assist, however we cannot help to carry customers.

    • Wheelchair access type: Not fully wheelchair accessible

  • Stairs: 11- 20
    Number of stairs is provided as guidance and is not in addition to any wheelchair access type (lift/ramp etc) stated above.
