Description

Los Angeles absurdists, Jackie Skinner and Kym Priess, take you on two very different rides of your life in one free hour. In Jackie's Beautiful Night, donning the longest dress in America, the crowd goes on a dialogue-light, wacky, interactive, comedic and entry-level accordion playing odyssey. On Kym's Loser Lion Party Bus: Dressed as a deranged lion, a wrestler reject turned party provocateur leads an electrifying journey to living the dream via a whirlwind of synth-rock singalongs, air guitar battles and drinking contests while pumping the gas on a vocal looper pedal.

Without a doubt THE HIGHLIGHT of the festival for me- went with a pal who had befriended “Loser Lion” on the bridges and went without knowing what I was in for… BOTH shows were exceptional- just what the doctor fucking ordered!! Bat shit crazy in the BEST sense.. laugh out loud stuff- u never know what’s coming next..Highly HIGHLY entertaining and bonkers, clever, fast moving, heart warming, funny as fuck.. genuinely left with a spring in my step and an unstoppable grin. Loser Lion you are definitely part of the Star Bar family… come back soon xxxxx

This was easily my favourite show in the entire Free Fringe programme this year. I didn't really know what to expect when the name of the show pointed to a 'party bus' experience (I also attended the 'party plane' version of the show and it was true commitment to the transport party theme to find myself watching the show on an actual plane seat), but I was quickly absorbed into the energy both performers shared with us. The first bit started off intriguing, a woman with an accordion speaking softly and stumbling around with the instrument while directly addressing the members of the audience. The absurdist tone quickly takes over when she starts making up personalised songs for the individual members of the audience. The second bit, Jerry the Loser Lion, crashes completely with the quiet beginning of the show and brings about a wild entrance that gets the audience pumped while singing the iconic 'Put 'em up' motto that really sticks with you. Air instruments, drinking contests and the interactive nature of the show really make it an entertaining journey that comes to its conclusion with a final reflection about achieving your dreams. The performers did an amazing job at keeping the audience engaged and creating an everlasting memory of the show.
