Description

This is a show about Anu Vaidyanathan's recent revelation – that shrouds have no pockets. Like Noah's Ark taking the best pair of every species, this show unpicks the best of each season of life – work, marriage, having kids and then post-mortems them into a little menagerie. While pulling her own teeth out over frozen shoulders, diminishing bank accounts and sanity, Anu decants the things she carries with her when on the brink. If only to help her see life for what it is – a giant, unavoidable wedgie.

I came to see this show on the way home from work and what a delight it was. Gorgeous storytelling and deeply moving! Please see if you can!

My wife and I watched Menagerie after we ran into Anu at the Pleasance. This artist has no posters in all of Edinburgh and is one of the hardest working performers we have encountered in our eight years visiting this festival.

Her show was brilliantly written and performed. As a debut work of theatre, she captivated the room with her easy storytelling, emphatic words and stellar performance. The show's technical work was also very good for a debut show, telling an audio-visual tale that touches upon taboo subjects for an immigrant family, destigmatizing darkness that falls on us and the final touch with a little sensory tool was the highlight of this show.

A must-watch if you love theatre and are curious about the work of independent artists who are on their way to great things.

We had the opportunity to watch this one-woman theatre piece last week and thought it was a very well-written, quietly powerful, astounding work. We have encountered Anu Vaidyanathan as a comedian for the last two years and this year, we were intrigued by her first work in the theatre. I found the story touching upon those realms that are not spoken about often enough and kudos to the artist for writing and performing this. Well done!

The story comes thick and fast, peppered with the kind of clever, quick-fire observations which work well in stand-up.
