Description

Six affluent socialites convene for a night of excess in a luxurious Edinburgh penthouse. They consider themselves the best of what the creative arts have to offer, the self-proclaimed future of their respective industries: after all, their daddies have told them so. Glasses clink and laughter fills the room, but the atmosphere reeks of deception and Chanel No 5. As veiled threats begin to emerge, hidden agendas and fractured loyalties are exposed. In this suspenseful exploration of privilege, wealth, and status, where do the lines between innocence and complicity lie?

We were in Edinburgh staying at the hotel hosting this performance and randomly booked tickets!! We were unsure what entilted but were so glad we booked , All the actors were sublime and the actor who played Harris resembled a young sean connery!! One to watch maybe we are here until next Wednesday and sad the performance is over

Dark, clever and funny ! A very enjoyable show !

You Deserve It was fantastic! I highly recommend it to any festival goers who are looking for a concise but entertaining and layered show. Sean Tennant as Harris was especially brilliant, injecting huge amounts of energy into the production. Everyone else was also at the top of their game. 10/10!

I have been really looking forward to seeing this show and it didn’t disappoint! Intriguing from the get-go! A well written storyline, and very believable characters. I was engrossed and the time flew by! I’m going again on Wednesday!!! Only two showings left this Fringe - go and see it if you can! It’s five stars from me!

This show was fantastic. It was funny, thought provoking and left me wanting more from this wonderful company.
The play is beautifully written and is a real credit to writer Jess Ferrier as she continues to hit it out of the park with her work after last years success with SharkBait Theatre and “The Rejects”. Another brilliantly written piece to add to her ever growing portfolio.
The plays main cast were, in a word, Phenomenal!
The entire cast felt like caricatures of the famous elite and yet so believable that they became realistic. Individually, it was a show where no actor felt out of place and they all had their times to shine and moments of pure theatre magic.
The worst thing about this piece is that it isn’t on every night of the fringe. If you don’t go and see it now you’d better be the first to donate when it needs funding to tour.
A massive congratulations to the entire team who brought this together.

A really superb show! I thoroughly enjoyed this, all six actors are brilliant and the chemistry between them is electric. This play is part dark comedy, part social satire, and part thriller, it's unpredictable, fast paced, and laugh out loud hilarious. It's also a play with a lot to say, about celebrity culture, elitism, and other issues, though I don't want to spoil the play too much. It is brilliantly written and excellently performed, the direction is spot on. There's only a few more chances to see this, and it keeps selling out, so get your ticket now! Treat yourself to a great evening of theatre. You deserve it.

The tone was set right at the start and continued throughout- this show stayed true to the synopsis and didn't disappoint. A talented group of characters delivering a cleverly written script. All of the characters showcased their own unique personalities. In particular we liked the character of Blair Douglas, who added a nice blend of depth and emotion in a unique adaptation of a 'whodunnit'. Well done on a successful production!

Zak 96 days ago

Very talented cohort of actors, especially the actress playing Lilith, delivering a large amount of wordy lines containing a large proportion of the jokes, that could have fallen extremely flat if she didn’t deliver them so perfectly. Very happy to have seen this play, you should see it too!

Excellent clever storyline, professional polished high energy performance, some nice laughs but mostly dramatic. Good job!

"You Deserve It" is a thought-provoking and bold performance that for me stood out among the diverse offerings at this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Combining dark humor with sharp social commentary, this production delves into the complex issues of entitlement, self-worth, and the lengths people will go to achieve success. The cast throw themselves into characters that twist and turn throughout the play from reasonably likable, to the polar opposite, as it draws you ever-deeper into the tense and darkly humorous narrative that shows the price you pay for ambition and undeserved entitlement can be too high. Very pleased I was able to catch this at my inaugural Edinburgh Fringe.

Pulls you straight into their world from the very start. Very funny, fast paced and twisty. Brilliant writing by Jess Ferrier and the six wonderful actors perform it brilliantly.

Brilliantly acted play about 'Edinburgh's Elite'. Truly a play for theatre lovers and nepo babies alike. Wonderfully coated in rich dialogue and mystery. A MUST SEE this year. But get tickets while you can because it's selling out! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A fantastic and enthralling portrayal about a group of entilted friends whos parents connections have pivoted them to wealth and fame .The storyline was gripping and with a who done it twist along with the creative way it showed the characters personality traits and insecurities i was drawn into the show from the start . The actors who were in the play were just tremendous and I've no doubt have a fantastic future ahead of them all .Just brilliant well done to all involved.

I found New Celts theatre company for the first time last year and, once again, have picked two of their Edinburgh Napier University pieces of new writing at random. You Deserve It by Jess Ferrier offers us a look at the posh theatre set of privilege and hidden truths with a good journey of mystery for us the audience along the way. This graduate show gave a good vehicle for the casting talent of 6 who will, I hope, never become anything like as monstrous or damaged as the character they portray. But of course I hope they will each get amazing breaks and carry their fame lightly. I am realising that Space Venues has some magic waving through it. New unknown work with often the fullest houses. If you want to see writing which might well end up celebrated in Roundabout Paines Plough seasons in the future, then you might be wise to check out one or more of this season. Jess Ferrier will I hope continue to bring new plays to our stages for many years into the future.

An incredible show by six very talented actors. Very well written and fast paced with a gripping story line which also makes you laugh out loud. Would love to see it again!

Finally got to see what I think is one of the best shows at the fringe. What a performance from all the actors with incredible writing and directing with very subtle but effective use of lighting and sound. I would recommend you all go watch as the characters feel so real with extraordinary performances from all of the cast. The story is excellently written which questions how you feel towards people in higher places in society, whether you hate or are jealous of them.

This was a fabulous play, performance and production. I went to see a play by the same writer, Jess Ferrier, at last year's Fringe and made a special effort to see her work this year and 'You Deserve It' did not disappoint. Well done to a talented group of young actors too!

Wow! Absolutely gripped by this production, completely lost track of time as I was sucked into this intriguing storyline. This exceeded all expectations. A fabulously talented bunch of individuals with a gripping plot. Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Good. Very, very good. So tightly and refreshingly written and very swift. I was gripped right from the start, a soliloquy that gave a real insight into the characters insecurities. They were almost all spoiled brats, but as the story unwound, real secrets handled with sensitivity. 50 people in audience totally enthralled in this world of image, deceptions and romance. I went with a theatre veteran at the Fringe since 1960s who said «This was a fantastic show, effervescent actors with a great plot and huge energy". I would go further, it is one of the most original ideas I have seen in my own 40 yrs at the fringe. I mean it. It is strong, staging and lighting excellent, and the actors were battering off each other like pinball. I will go again later in the run.

‘You Deserve It’ highlights the talent of these up and coming actors through clever and innovative new writing by Jess Ferrier. This play manages to tackle relevant and important themes like nepotism and pressures of the media including some hilarious moments but also moments of vulnerability and tension that leave you on the edge of your seat. Each of the six cast members are highly talented and detail oriented in their acting, but when they come together as an on stage friendship group they compliment each other so well and create an absolutely electric atmosphere.
The storyline allows the audience to get to know each of the characters so that the twists and turns throughout are all the more impactful and thought provoking. This play is a must see this year at fringe so grab yourself some tickets while you can - you deserve it!

We thoroughly enjoyed watching this performance. The acting was brilliant and the play ,although amusing at times, brought with it a storyline that became increasingly tense and thought provoking.Well done to the writer as well as the actors.

Aidan Curley 109 days ago

The charm, wittiness and flamboyance of these nepo-babies catches the audience from the get go. The actors bring a presence to each individual character they play, from the pompous “Lennox” played by Archie Beattie, the hopeless Romantic “Aurora” played by Jenny MacDougall, the quick witted “Lilith” played by Leah Neil, the morally conflicted “Skye” played by Yasmin Taylor, and the over dramatic theatre boys “Harris and Blair” played by Sean Tennant and Robbie Small. It really shows the behind the scenes of what it takes to be a part of the upper class elite. The twist and turns are done so well, due to the great direction of David Wotton/Becca Donley, and the writing of Jess Ferrier. A must see show, with an interesting message. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A wonderful and intriguing piece of theatre about the lives of entitled millennials from writer Jess Ferrier. This piece thrills in its twists and turns of societies brightest and most promising – but things aren’t always as they appear. This hour of theatre watching such talented actors flew by taking me on a roller-coaster ride getting to know these people and understanding if/why/how they ‘deserve it’! Seriously, this play should be on your ‘must see’ list. Great theatre has you thinking about it the next day and I still am…

Ferrier avoids easy judgements and stereotypical characterisations, and all of them have more going on than is first apparent. The end result is taut, convincing, well directed, very well acted and highly recommended.
