Description

Park yourself behind the counter and take stock during this heartfelt devised comedy. WYLAB? plays out from the omniscient perspective of a local corner-shopkeeper, following the lives of eight (mostly) lovable regulars. You’ll watch as they tackle the trials and tribulations of early adulthood – falling in and out of love, friendship and happiness – becoming interconnected in ways they never could have imagined. Ding-dong: Meet Imo, Maya, Chiara, Will, Jamie, Grace, Max and Saz, your corner shop’s regularest regulars… and none of them realise quite how much we know about their lives.

So glad we saw this! The ensemble cast is wonderful, each character convincing and interesting. The corner shop premise is very clever. Well done!

Student life, in all its Lambrini-soaked glory, viewed through the lens of a local convenience store till. The show is fast paced and punchy, the characters colourful and believable. The dynamics develop as the story unfolds, slowly revealing a sad, dark secret at its core. Well, written and directed, with acting that draws laughter and tugs at your heartstrings in equal measure. No wonder it has sold out every performance - heartily recommend keeping an eye on this talented young group.

what a show! i could’ve watched it for another 50 minutes, it was quick and interesting and i was sucked into the world created in this corner shop. i found myself relating to the dilemma of how many bottles of lambrini to purchase and the hushed discussion of the night before. the position and “role” of the audience is interesting and i thoroughly enjoyed the connections of the characters as the piece went on. a really impressive piece of devised theatre from a wonderful theatre company. keep your eye on these guys.

AMAZING! Absolutely loved this show!! I would say buy a ticket but it’s sold out and rightly so!!!
Such a beautifully clever concept, on point writing and acting with a phenomenal story line - so engaging. Definitely one of my stand outs this year, will be thinking about this one for a long time! #slayed

This was fast paced, insightful, funny and moving at the same time. Clever concept. The audience is the shopkeeper. Well acted. A talented group of actors. I wish them future success.

What a play! The writing, performance, pacing, structure and humour were all outstanding; and perfectly balanced with tension and dramatic scenes. I loved the unique lens of a shopkeeper in a corner shop being used to observe and examine student relationships. Truly wonderful, a must see!

Saw this great show on Mon 12/8 and cannot recommend it highly enough! Writing and acting by all involved was superb with the performance seen from the viewpoint of the unseen and unheard shopkeeper.
The shop shelves slowly empty as the students come and go and their loves and lives are revealed to us in tantalising snippets with a dark sucker punch in the latter scenes.
Go and see it- you won’t regret it!

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I went to see this play, but the actors and writing balance humour and drama deftly in this play examining student friendships through the lens of a shopkeeper in your corner shop. 10/10, would watch again!

Oh to be a shopkeeper!! The audience of shopkeepers were treated to a 45 minute story with all 8 characters developed, interactions perfectly delivered to uncover secrets, some funny, others distressing. The 8 actors worked together to develop the story with humour and heartache. Ultimately, friendship prevailed over unacceptable University behaviour of some. Very intimate, with plenty of laughs out loud and I congratulate the team, front and back of house, for entertaining us superbly. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A really heartwarming comedy drama that follows the lives of everyday people in the corner shop.

A very talented group of young actors that gelled very well to tackle some important themes!

Loved this! It felt genuine and the characters are people anyone would recognise in their own lives, making the funny moments even funnier. Moments of tenderness gave this depth and I highly recommend catching it if you can!

Such a great play! An easy watch - effortlessly funny but also manages to tackle some important themes with a heartwarming ending! 45 minutes of your time at the fringe you will not regret!
