Description

In the summer of 1973, Slade drummer Don Powell was involved in a devastating car accident which instantly killed his girlfriend and left him with a brain injury that resulted in severe and lasting memory loss. Wonderin' Y tells the story of how a 26-year-old man at the height of the band's fame fought courageously to get back behind his drum kit and rebuild his life. This is a gripping, emotional and uplifting solo performance by writer and actor Ian Pearce, who worked closely with Don Powell to create the story.

5* Fabulous Show
Ian brings the time and characters alive and delivers an engrossing performance that transports you back in time. The "behind the scenes" aspect makes you realise the love and devotion the gang (group) had for each other. Uplifting and joyful. I was a Slade fan but this is one of the shows you come to the fringe for. Excellent!!

Top notch performance and storytelling whether you were/are a Slade fan or not - my wife knew of the band and some of their hits but nothing about the events surrounding Don Powell, but was nevertheless totally engrossed. Ian deftly orchestrates the interactions of numerous characters, and brings the audience with him as he paints a vivid picture of the era, the events, the highs, the lows and the characters. This is why we come to the Fringe!

Really enjoyed this show today - returned to see Ian Pearce as we have enjoyed his previous Fringe shows, and this one did not disappoint! Incredible story-telling that kept the audience throughly engrossed from the outset. Ian's skill in voicing the many different characters involved was outstanding. Thanks for creating such an interesting show!

We loved this show...maybe for those of us of a certain vintage who remember Slade as being one of the biggest bands at the time and the news of when Don was involved in the car crash...If you are too, well worth giving it a look.
