Description

Vincent died in 1890, John died in 1980, both of gunshot wounds to the chest. But imagine what might have happened had the two greatest artists of their time met? Five years before their deaths, both men went through profound change. Van Gogh renounced religious ambition, began to paint, and, despite arguments with antagonist Paul Gaugin, created his life’s masterworks. Lennon renounced sex, drugs and rock'n'roll, began five years seclusion and, despite arguments with antagonist Paul McCartney, created a son and his last album. This play takes place at their exact moment of crisis and decision.

Two of the very best actors I have seen at the fringe, truly astounding. I struggled a little with the lack of plot, instead playing out as more of a conversation that didn't really seem to end up anywhere. There is a lovely concept in there about two of the greatest yet perhaps most complicated artists of their time finding some common ground about giving everything to your craft but it was never really brought to the forefront enough and so the entire thing perhaps lacked an emotional punch. There were a lot of smoothly delivered jokes, however, which were received really well. Overall, lots of potential, and I would've liked to have seen the unabridged version.

I'm the old fella in the front row who thought that this was the most amazing piece of theatre performed by two very , very talented actors. My only regret was that I discovered it so late in the fringe . If you are reading this review and there is still time to see it do so. . A gem of a show . It's boss !

The bizarre and intriguing premise of this play about two artists I love drew me to it, and I am so glad I went. An exhilarating early-morning kick-off to a fringe day! The script is brilliant, each character obviously thoroughly researched and believable in each often-witty utterance - in Vincent's case inadvertently, in his hilarious ignorance.
The two actors - never mind their uncanny physical resemblance to these historical giants - were excellent in their portrayals. The timing of their interactions was superb.
The structure of the play is a satisfying and nod-off-preventing arc of conflict, mellowing, uncertainty...
I would see this play again in a heartbeat. If you don't manage to catch it at the Fringe, chase these chaps down to see when they're coming to a venue near you. I certainly will be.

This is simply an astonishing piece of theatre from the top drawer. The scripting is pacy and witty, the direction is seamless and as for the performance you just don't get any better.
An absolute must-see.
