Description

Smile while it burns. Stacey is a California weather girl. An oversexed and underpaid harbinger of our dying planet. But today, her regular routine of wildfires, prosecco and teeth whitening descends into a scorched earth catastrophe, before she discovers something that will save us all. A dizzying rampage into the soul of American strangeness. The award-winning producers of Fleabag and Baby Reindeer bring you a blistering dark comedy about wrecking the places we love. From Lucille Lortel Award-nominated Brian Watkins, creator of the hit Amazon series Outer Range, and Drama Desk-nominated director Tyne Rafaeli.

5 star performance of a rather surreal, heartfelt lamentation on life. Tragicomedy with poise and crescendo. Perfect. Thank you.

Great script, expertly performed. The smiling TV persona was recognisable enough to be funny, but never tipped over into pastiche. Perfectly judged for maximum credibility - and scariness when it all falls apart. Overall deeply disturbing, as it should be.

WEATHER GIRL
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If this show isn’t in big theatres soon I will be shocked. Such a captivating performance, no wonder it’s a sellout! Just bought the play text :)

I had to spend a couple of days trying for a return for this show as it had already sold out and I'm so pleased I managed to get one as I absolutely loved this show.
The writing is fantastic and McDermott's delivery is pitch-perfect throughout the show. Dry and sarcastic but inwardly imploding, McDermott has that 'it' factor as an actor - you hang on her every word for the whole hour. There is a real intelligence in her performance. One of the absolute highlights of the fringe for me. If a return presents itself to you for this deservedly sold-out show absolutely snap it up - you won't be disappointed. And if you're London-based I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it transfers there after it's Edinburgh run ends.

The weather girl is Stacey, played by Julia McDermott. Struggling to reconcile the wildfires in her region with the deluded positive outlook she is forced to display in her forecasts, and the absence of her homeless mother, Stacey's coping mechanisms include casual sex and secretly drinking alcohol from a flask. As the fires worsen, the play becomes surreal and Stacey more outspoken, in this biting satire on attitudes to climate change. Although the run is sold out, tickets can become available an hour before performances and it's well worth taking a chance for one of the best plays at the Fringe this year.

Weather Girl was absolutely incredible. From start to finish this was how you captivate an audience. Smart, darkly funny, relevant and beautifully acted. A true privilege to have seen this.

I feel a bit bad leaving a review when I can see the show is now sold out for the entire run but if you do get a chance then dont hesitate to catch this show. The performance was out of this world. The plot, which perhaps not surprisingly for the writer of "Outer Range" was became rather surreal, had the audience almost literally clinging to their seats until the end, when, as one, we lept to our feet for a standing ovation.

Superb, powerful one-woman performance. Really glad we took a punt on this one.

The Real Chrisparkle (5/5 stars) 14 days ago

A stunning performance by Julia McDermott holds our attention from the first to the last moment, spanning every conceivable emotion under the (incredibly hot) sun. Very effective lighting and staging help bring this important story to life. You’ll be tingling all over from both the pleasure of the performance and the pain of its message.

A powerful piece of theatre which exposes the reality of television against the glossed images that media outlets throw out into the world. Nothing is quite as it appears. Especially when the world around you is on fire.

It’s written by Brian Watkins, whose scorching CV includes the Amazon Prime series Outer Range. It’s a dark comedy about a hot button issue - the climate emergency - allowing audiences to laugh and feel good about themselves at the same time.
