Description

What ruins a good game night? Losing all the vowels in Scrabble? Flipping the Monopoly board after going bankrupt? Accidentally kidnapping someone? It's definitely the last one, isn't it? It turns out that accidentally kidnapping someone can really put a damper on a game of charades, as Vinnie, Leo, Sal and Pablo discover over the course of this zany and off-the-wall show. After fighting amongst themselves, their kidnapped compadre and the police, the gang try to come up with a plan to escape the night guilt-free.

Great show, loved the characters especially the police man and his funny little ears, but everyone’s performance was very good. Original funny script, well worth going to see. Talented writer, performers and tech team

although i had seen ‘we kidnapped an artist’ back in may, the show felt almost brand new. the humour was carried forward by oscar errington's quipy one liners and their ever-changing effects on his fellow cast members. his role as the policeman is accompanied by an ironic cover of ‘it's the sound of the police’ and a farcical caricature of the police force. the rest of the cast, namely sairre sukphol, grace scott, max dixon-smith and suryani asteraki have an incredible dynamic that is representative of a goofy but tight-knit young friendgroup. the comparison of uptight, hilarious and admittedly slightly typecast vinnie (sairre sukphol) with naive, trusting and all round silly sal (grace scott) makes for a humorous dynamic that involves a large amount of chiding. max dixon smith plays their perfect third, with pablo's relaxed and nonchalant attitude reassuring sal and irritating vinnie to the extreme. suryani asteraki plays an incredible leo, with her invention of money jam and her ability to mime accidental kidnapping being unparalleled. the final (although not to be undermined) member of the cast, niamh carlyle, monologues convincingly about the pain art causes and the injustices women face in the world of art. her lisa is sly, deceiving and empathetic- with her budding friendship with sal being a highlight. the inclusion of production in the play is endearing and aids audience interaction by miles. the tech is well rehearsed and hilarious, with the head of police having the voice of animal crossing's tom nooks. all round, this cast and crew have put a noticeable amount of effort into making the audience laugh, with ben stoddart's script and witty improvisation working hand in hand to formulate a goofy night that all enjoyed.

Fantastic show, so funny. All the characters so well acted and the script writing was superb- loved the twist. Well worth the small ticket price. Definitely recommend.

Absolutely amazing show! So original and so funny! The cast worked well to make the show engaging and enjoyable for the audience! Every character had their own unique, weird, funny personality and seeing all the characters interact was hilarious! Especially loved the silly police officer who stole the show! The lighting, sound affects etc also helped you be fully engrossed in the story! Well done to the whole cast and crew! Would definitely recommend! It was only 40 minutes but it felt like the story wasn’t crammed into that time! Right off the Royal Mile and only a tenner, absolutely worth it!

Hilarious show. Totally worth watching.
The characters are lovable, well constructed and the dialogue is fun and witty.
Expect a genuine reaction to accidentally kidnapping an artist and an unexpected ending.
An hour very well spent.

A very fun and lovely show with strong performers! So much potential there to be even bigger and crazier.

A few suggestions (don’t take as gospel lol): I wasn’t sure what direction the show was going in terms of style. Whether it was going to be part improv with the charades suggestions at the start or be full on non naturalistic with the fourth wall breaks. You were very fantastic and big performers, and you can afford to crank up the personalities to 11! The Police Officer character, for example, brilliant characterisation and so ridiculous he felt other worldly in comparison to the other characters. Capitalize on each characters archetypes, they are very clear so make them even bigger!

I’d say make a concrete decision on what style the show is. Add more fourth wall breaks, beat the joke to death! I think the charades suggestions is a great idea, be really cool to find more moments in the show to include them.

All in all, you’re all a very talented group of characters with unique quirks about you all :)) Hope the rest of your run goes well!
