Description

Objects and spaces have memories. Those memories fall into oblivion. Two diners in Hong Kong and Los Angeles. A and B, a telepathic “phone call” between them. How do we understand a foreign story through spaces and objects? A Chinese and American devised play, Vanishing is a multimedia journey inviting the audience to think about the narrative potential of everyday objects around us. What are the collective memories of objects and spaces? How do we hold the memories in their tangible forms?

Great show, very thought provoking and moving. The combination of the actors, differing languages, background pictures, and ever-turning boxes made for a constantly engaging production. Well done!

An extraordinarily moving show that invoked questions so deep I felt like sitting naked in front of a mirror. They all tried to escape their stories, but when they have run far enough they realised they themselves have vanished along with the stories. It struck into my childhood and my collective unconsciousness instilled by my culture. When they were shouting on stage, I felt relief, as if my bewilderment, fear, and rage were released. The cooperation between the physical props and actors and the virtual projection blended into a flow that gradually quietened down anxiety and hopelessness introduced in the beginning of the show. Perfect and passionate crew! 艺术栋梁!

On Thursday, I spent 45 minutes at this show. It was my first time experiencing such a relatively short performance live. For me, it was a fresh experience. The actors worked very hard to perform for us, and the subtitles and lighting were cleverly coordinated. However, for non-Chinese speakers, it can be challenging to catch some of the nuances in the performance, and the switching between Mandarin, English, and Cantonese can cause one to miss certain points. Regarding the prop design, when the performer at the American restaurant put on the box-shaped helmet and handed it over to the other side, there was a noticeable mistake; I believe there could have been a better choice. I hope the upcoming performances go smoothly.

Thanks to our all-female creative team for bringing us such a wonderful production! After the show, my friends and I couldn’t stop reflecting on and marveling at it.

The two actresses were deeply convincing and emotional, with clear diction. The precision of their pauses made it especially comfortable to listen to, and they immediately drew us into the scenario they portrayed.

The entire play was imbued with a unique charm, and I must say in simple, straightforward language: our all-female team’s work is just outstanding!

I really enjoyed the setup where two women from different times converse, connect, and come to understand each other. From a certain segment on, the emotions of the actresses grew more intense. Their monologues intertwined, and my tears flowed uncontrollably along with their narratives. It was familiar and painful, and these tears and the empathy they evoked are something only women might fully comprehend.

I believe every female viewer could see herself, her mother, and other female friends and relatives in this 40-minute play; facing those “questions that perhaps have no answers,” yet you find an answer for yourself. There are themes of escape and wandering, of freedom and confusion, of struggle and searching.

The scenic design and stage setting were also incredibly meticulous, showing a lot of ingenuity! Several times during the show, I thought how well these elements complemented the plot’s progression.

I hope more audiences choose to come and see it!

I really enjoyed this show. The cast do a great job exploring a really interesting, ambitious and unique concept and I loved that multiple languages were used. The set design is clever and effective. I hope this show continues to develop, its something special with lots of potential to grow even further and I hope more people get to see it. Really enjoyed!

"被看见" is always simple but never easy 。

Best show of our day. Three things happening always all at once; you could see the show multiple times and still catch a new gem each time. Powerful nuggets constantly flashing and gorgeous alignment of cultures. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
