Description

Six friends plan a night of folklore and song. With ancient tales of myth and magic brought to life with song and powerful storytelling, they hope to launch a business reflecting their love of Celtic and Gaelic mythologies. It’s the perfect plan. Perfect, that is, until some evangelical Christians get wind of their ideas… as the performance draws near, the protest crowd gathers. Can the company hold their nerve? Will our heroes win the day? Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes examines the desire to hold on to ancient stories in a modern world.

A really interesting and enjoyable show following the opinions of well brought to life characters!

Folk’d Up’s “Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes” is a beautiful, witty and entertaining story from start to finish, the use of music through the piece is genius and not forced at all. The direction from Andrew Nimmo is brilliant, the ensemble of the cast is very strong with each character having their own quirks and personal opinions on the topics mentioned in the play. Standout performance from the hopeless and optimistic leader “Warren” played by William Harmar. Harmar brings a comedic but sympathetic charm to his character which is to be praised. The writing from Donna Soto-Morettini is another classic to her resumé. Overall, this play is educational, heart warming and I must watch at Fringe this year. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a timely show that cleverly uses the lure of folktale to bring the audience into a wider conversation about myth, religion, and politics. Energetic and nuanced performances from recent graduates, and particular congratulations to the director who also acted in this piece. A company to watch out for in the best sense.

I enjoyed this show. It embodies the spirit of the Fringe with enthusiastic acting tackling big issues. My only concern would be how the ending wasn’t clear enough.

A well crafted show that blends some light banter - pleasant humour - and good music with complex philosophy. The cast carry it off successfully and make it a show worth seeing

Very real theme in the show in our current climate. Everywhere in the world people are trying to tell their stories, trying to be and stand form in what they believe and facing resistance.
The show was funny and heartfelt and relatable.
Beautiful performance, well written and so worth seeing.

I doubt the cast realised when they decided to stage this show of "Timeless Tales" at the Fringe this year, that it would actually prove timely given the furore from conservative Christians over the Bacchanal at the Olympics that some mistook as a parody of The Last Supper. An energetic and engaging performance from these recently qualified actors fro Napier University drama course.

Folk’d Up Theatre and New Celts’ Timeless Tales of Gods And Heroes at theSpace on the Mile is a well-observed and subtle examination of human interactions and contemporary politics.
