Oozing with charisma, humour and an unparalleled sleight of hand, Tim's show is as intimate and captivating as magic comes.

Absolutely sensational, bravo!

Tim Licata is magic. No truly. There is no other explanation for that stuff he does with balls and cloth and playing cards. He even knows what number you are thinking of. And while he is baffling us with his card tricks, he is beguiling us with stories of his New York Sicilian family on his father’s side and especially of his uncle Sakvatore who was a natty dresser and a dab hand at cards. Uncle Sal could even make people disappear. Nit that he was connected to the Mafia or anything.
Magic. Just magic.

What a Magic show!
Tim Licata, with fleet of foot skill and easy charm, takes us on a wonderful journey of reminiscence and family history down the mean streets of 40’s New York. What is the meaning of family genes, history and circumstance? How much are we the imprint of our forebears? How much did they influence us in our early impressionable years? What would be the outcome of that significant birthday present- the Magic set?
Tim blends his own musings about his Italian family in down town Manhattan with a broad flair for all types of magic, from cardsharp to knife edge.
With a deft way he entrances us, through multiple magic tricks, to engage with his intimate family story, told through the simplest of props; a card table, a shot of whiskey and some endearing photos. In the end we are left on tenterhooks, amazed, awestruck and gasping for more …Don’t miss this perfect late evening show!

We often talk about golden age of playwriting in Scotland. I think we are in golden age of magic now. We have acts like Colin Cloud and Scott Silven. And of course many of them came through the magic fest which Kevin quantum and Svetlana conjured into being with sheer determination. We have Jamie Harrison wowing audiences around the world with his designs for Harry Potter and stranger things stage shows.
And up there with all of them is Tim Licata - a wonderful performer and storyteller who weaves some classic magic into a beautiful hour at Assembly Rooms. I’ve never ever spent quite so enjoyable an hour in a freight container before. He is properly brilliant. Everything I look for in a magic show - great skill, jaw dropping tricks and a theatrical sensibility.
Loved it

Tim Licata’s blend of autobiographical storytelling and close up magic is a delight. Funny, charming, skilful sleight of hand and a wee dram for good measure! Hugely entertaining- exactly what the Fringe is all about! Grab a ticket, you won’t be disappointed.

A great blend of engaging story and seriously impressive magic skills. Tim Licata can spin a yarn and pull off a magic trick with equal aplomb. The staging is creative and the series of set pieces come together as a portrait of the performer.

Great show - do not miss it! Tim is an accomplished magician and slickly delivers some brilliant close-up work. He's also a gifted storyteller and weaves in personal history with tales of tantalising family connections to the Mafia. He has a warm and welcoming presence and the audience participation is gentle and friendly and fun. The show starts with a duo of prediction tricks which are absolutely baffling and ends with a terrifically tense and genuinely dramatic climax.

Such a lovely show- an interesting insight into the magician’s family history interspersed with jaw dropping tricks and awe inspiring magic. Thoroughly recommend- you’ll leave with a smile on your face and a big sigh of relief that no one’s been injured (fingers crossed)

This year's Edinburgh Festival kicked off with a magical storytelling theatre piece. Tim Licata, a theatre director, actor, and magician who moved from the US to the UK over 30 years ago, brings his personal journey to life in "Close-up and Personal." The show chronicles Tim's path from being an Italian-American kid to becoming a magician and actor. By weaving in stories from his grandparents and his own experiences against the backdrop of World Wars I and II, Tim illustrates how these global events impacted everyday lives through a lens of humor and humility.
Interspersed with charming magic tricks, Tim’s storytelling never feels contrived or overly mystical. The relaxed and engaging manner of his performance, combined with interactive elements, turns potentially heavy subject matter into something lively and entertaining. The audience was treated to feats of precognition, ball tricks, card tricks, and even a nail-in-the-paper-bag trick that had everyone gasping and shouting "No, no, no!" The one-hour show was filled with applause, gasps, and laughter, making for a delightful and thought-provoking experience.

It’s the Fringe equivalent of curling up with a mug of hot chocolate and a mystery novel, the perfect nightcap of a show before bed.
