Description

Straight from New York City! Enchanting story of female trauma, familial loss, and poetic symbolism. Watch two girls fall in love in a 10-day silent retreat near the ocean as they cover themselves in colourful paint. Will they find inner peace when natural world deteriorates and the past comes back to haunt the present? Will they have the courage for intimacy again when every attempt before leads to separation? Will they try to express their love when verbal expression is not allowed? The kiss between two women is never apolitical, free, and painless, but it's always beautiful.

This was a very sweet and gentle show. It took me a little time at the start to get into it, possibly not helped by the early time slot or the sound balance at the start, but then found I'd been drawn in and enchanted by what I was seeing. It felt slightly dreamy, with the characters and their situation gradually revealing themselves. I'm a bit surprised to look back at the listing and see this is a US production, as it has a subtlety and purity that I don't often associate with US work, so thank you for opening my mind on that.

This is a tender, sweet piece of original theatre which subtly encompasses underlying themes of acceptance, letting go and seeing the world without pretence. There is almost a fairy tale feel to this story of innocence meeting innocent lost.
The two actors give a strong, nuanced performance and (intentional or not), that one actor plays to the audience is a clever way of bringing the audience along into the story with them as the protagonist.
Good lighting and inventive use of paint helps set up the show however today the actors were occasionally overpowered by the sound effects. This did not detract much from the show as a whole which we thoroughly enjoyed. Definitely worth a watch as a small, hidden gem of the fringe.

(I'm not sure my previous review posted so if it duplicates, apologies)

This is a beautiful piece of theatre. The staging, the lighting, the directing of the exquisite performances from the cast of two, topped with the colour of the paint and the simplicity of the object central to the story, and the tide as the aural backdrop to it all. The fact that I was the only member of the audience on the day I saw it added to the poignancy, with one of the actors being bold enough to play directly to me which was simply enchanting. A hidden gem, early in the morning, to start your day serenely.
