Description
It’s the early 80s at Cambridge. Geoffrey Cormick is up against his arch nemesis, Gideon Mellor, to become the next president of the Union Society, with the final vote cast by the audience. Lance Anisfeld's debut play, directed by his daughter 36 years later, uncovers the dark side of relationships, professional and personal; there will be liars, cheaters, posh tarts and dimwits, as well as lovers, loyal friends and sprinklings of politically incorrect humour we’ve all pretended doesn’t exist anymore. To say it ends well would be too sweet. Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. Absolutely amazing show. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, it was tense but incredibly funny. Being able to choose the ending was brilliant, and I'll definitely be seeing it again so I can see the other ending!

So wonderful to see a cast of 8 (instead of the many one man shows) and so much energy and talent from these incredibly talented actors. A brilliant hour of thought provoking fun in this tense battle for the presidency of the Cambridge Union! Go see it!!

Terrific piece of writing.
Great energy from a young cast who never dropped the ball. Three or four stand-out performances amongst an already strong cast.
Impressive stuff greatly enjoyed. Thank you.

Audience participation? I’m in! This play was really fun to watch, and with some incredible performances from all the cast it was easily very engaging and interesting. Definitely worth checking out!

I came to see this show about a fictional election for the Presidency of the Cambridge Union Society in the 1980s primarily because like the author, Lance Anisfeld I held that Office at that time - in fact it’s only fair that I say that I knew him at the time and we are still friends. I was President in 1983 and he was in 1985 (by which time I had left University). He wrote the play a couple of years later. I was hugely impressed by this production - it rightly comes with a warning that is uses the language and debating style widespread at the time, much of which would be totally unacceptable today. The young cast have superbly captured the atmosphere and style both of the debating chamber and the cliques that coalesced and sometimes split up at election times. The play has the unusual and very effective feature thet before the last scene the audience is asked to vote for which of the two candidates should win the election and are then shown one of two different endings depending which candidate is chosen. This is a gripping, shocking and often very funny play and I recommend it unreservedly. It’s on every day until Fri 23rd Aug, as a matinée at 2:55pm, it lasts just an hour and is reasonably priced. Go for it!
