Description

Summoning Sondheim is a cabaret comedy séance that uses the power of musical theatre to summon us theatre kids' Lord and Saviour, Stephen Sondheim. Grace O'Keefe (co-creator of five-star Fringe sell-out Bad Teacher) and Jordana Belaiche (West End credits: Little Cosette in Les Misérables and Jane in Mary Poppins; yes, really) host a séance to summon Stephen Sondheim to save musical theatre. This love letter is a testament to Sondheim's legacy as one of the world's greatest artists and as a mentor to theatre-makers, exploring how we summon Sondheim every time we're in a theatre.

I thought this was so fun and funny, especially for avid musical theatre enthusiasts. The accent work by Jordana when taking on an alternate role was impeccable, I genuinely wished I was taking notes. You could tell a lot of love was put into this production, and it even poked fun of the performers/writers themselves USING musical theatre references. Definitely a fun watch if you love Sondheim, musical theatre, and want to support two new young writers.

Moving, funny, campy!! Great for those who love Sondheim and those unacquainted with the icon - Jordana and Grace made everyone feel welcome and part of the story :)

The blurb doesn’t do the joyous madness of this production service. The ladies bring wonderful and infectious energy, and an obvious love of the greatest creator of musicals to emerge from the United States. Our British well beloved also-ran makes a fantastic cameo. Hopefully, no tickets are available, but assuming I’m wrong you should jump at the chance.
