Description
I never met a man I so disliked and yet I can’t describe him. A fusion of storytelling and a one-person show. An intense hour-long dramatic narrative, adapted and performed by Adrian Palmer in a version as close as possible to the timeless literary masterpiece of Edinburgh’s own Robert Louis Stevenson. The original Victorian melodrama of Gothic suspense and horror on the nature of evil and the hypocrisy of a male dominated society. 'An expressively superb Adrian Palmer held the audience spellbound.' Adrian plays all the characters. Where we focus on the "protagonist" Utterson, one of Jekyll's closest friend and lawyer.
The mystery of hyde - and as the story goes on becomes more and more violent and repulsive.
The desperation of trying to reach out to Jekyll, and you get a glimpse of why he did what he did.
Adrian was really smooth with transitioning between characters, and they were all very distinct and recognisable. Even the minor ones.
Theatre lighting and sound gave the dramatic affect needed at times.

A truly mesmerising performance by Adrian Palmer, we thoroughly enjoyed the show and his interpretation of the characters in this intriguing story, first class.

A unique and powerful performance of a classic tale, bringing each character to life. Adrian manages to draw the audience in, with his energy and humour. We thoroughly enjoyed watching him retell Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and would have loved to see The Three Strangers too, had time allowed. Thoroughly recommend.

Fantastic show, Adrian is completely engaging, I was enthralled and enriched by the experience! Definitely not one to miss. I saw both shows and would have booked a repeat performance if time allowed.

Adrian Palmer gave us an unforgettable performance bringing each of the characters truly into the room. An amazing feat to watch, heightened by the atmospheric sound effects and venue. We loved it. Highly recommended.

A really good show - the storytelling is brilliant and each character is truly different. I can’t think of a better novel to be told by only one actor!

We really enjoyed this dramatic and incredibly well crafted telling of the dark tale of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Adrian Palmer creates an ominous landscape with his compelling characterisation, that keeps you on the edge of your seat!

I saw both Dr Jekyll and also The Three Strangers. Adrian takes you by the hand and back in time. He makes the stories his own and dramatises them with focus and energy. These are a treat for lovers of Victorian literature. Not to be missed.

He played all the characters in this story ... just him. Every person was distinct with his own accent and mannerisms. Fantastic storytelling here. I admire this actor very much.

Absolutely mesmerising! You’ll be hanging onto every word. Wonderfully intimate setting.

Highly recommended. I agree though that as the space is so small latecomers shouldn’t be admitted as it’s distracting for everyone. The show demonstrates the power of story and good delivery. Wonderful acting

Came to see this after seeing Adrian’s other show “The Three Strangers” (would also highly recommend!) as we were spellbound by his performance and wanted to see more. This also did not disappoint us- Adrian knows just how to grip an audience and differentiate the characters so clearly in his tone and posture, it is a masterclass in storytelling! You couldn’t spend an hour better than coming to this show. So pleased to have seen both of his performances and would recommend this to absolutely everyone!

Having really enjoyed Adrian's outstanding performance of The Three Strangers, we felt we'd be missing out if we didn't come to see this and it lived up to our (very high) expectations. Adrian is superb at bringing stories to life and inhabits each character he portrays in an utterly compelling way - the time flies by as you are gripped by this master storyteller - I was spellbound! Thank you, Adrian, for 2 brilliant shows.

Adrian Palmer’s solo telling of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Victorian classic is masterfully melodramatic, a feast for the eyes and ears.
Stevenson’s ripe dialogue has never been delivered so deliciously!
To have Edinburgh’s own horror story staged in the bowels of Augustine United Church only adds to the magic.

This was a excellent show, a classic Stevenson story told by a master . It kept me enthralled throughout as he related the strange tale of Jekyll and Hyde.. Maybe it’s because we are all secretly afraid that we have a dark personality lurking under a good self??
Well worth a visit.
PS: if the show has already started latecomers should be refused admission it distracts the small audience and does not help the storyteller at all.

Adrian Palmer gives a chilling, detailed & atmospheric performance with only his voice, face & posture to retell a classic horror story! Very compelling! See it!

Adrian Palmer does a fantastic job of re-telling this story and frightening the life out of the audience with his Mr Edward Hyde.
Each character has his own voice and mannerisms and the whole telling keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Fantastic show.

This show was amazing. Adrian Palmer certainly knows how to mesmerize his audience, and as a big fan of the novella, I was incredibly excited to see how well-done this adaptation is. Adrian Palmer does excellent accents for each character and plays them very distinctly, so it was always clear who was speaking. The show was also very dramatic at points and kept me on the edge of my seat. For anyone who likes Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Gothic literature, or more generally enjoys a blend of superb storytelling and acting, this show is fantastic and completely worthwhile. (Also, Palmer was very kind and friendly when I asked for a photo with him after the show. A perfect Mr. Hyde during the performance but not so much after lol.)
