Description

Steve Otis Gunn has been uncomfortable since 1991, when he realised he didn't know what to do with his arms. Could it be residual guilt from being indoctrinated into a life of crime by his parents? Or the hallucinogens in his baby bottle? We may never know. Expect silliness interspersed with true stories of feeling awkward told in a dark comic style. (At the end of each performance an audience member will be invited onstage to be part of a special episode of Television Times Podcast which is hosted by Steve.)

This is the type of show that a fringe festival should really be all about. In reality though; with high prices and competition for audiences it seldom is. A challenging; marmite show that defies straight forward categorisation and pushes boundaries. Although labelled as ‘comedy’ in the reality the Steve Otis Gunn’s comedy persona is a knowing parody of a comedian. He uses cheap, tacky props to lure his audience into a place where he shares some of the darkest visceral stories about childhood you are likely to hear at the festival. It’s not a misery memoir; there is redemption too coupled with flippant interjections by a brightly coloured ‘wheel of fortune’. The first time I saw this show I wasn’t sure if I had just seen the worst Edinburgh show or the best. Whatever it was I knew I was totally riveted throughout. Must see.

A powerful, hilarious and unique show. Unlike anything I have seen before at the festival. Deeply personal and evocative. Would strongly encourage
anybody to experience it.

A cleverly crafted show that is funny, endearing and beautifully vulnerable. One to watch for a star on the rise.

Extremely vulnerable and gripping storytelling. I felt extremely connected to the performer!
