Description
Before there were knights, there were idiots who thought swinging a sword and being a hero were pretty much interchangeable. Squires is a historical workplace comedy turned comedy of errors as a group of unlikely friends come together under a common goal: to not be accused of murder. Squires looks at pressing issues like 'how crappy is a first job exactly' and 'can you speedrun inventing the concept of gravity in a single afternoon'. The answer to both is 'yes'. Holy Grail meets Twelfth Night in a story of pigs, bisexual panic, bricks and accusations of heresy. Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. Honestly one of the most enjoyable shows I saw at fringe. Perfect combination of historical and modern humour, with lovable characters and a hilarious, gripping storyline.

It really wasn’t good. The writing might have been alright but it needed actors who’d had a bit of training. It was very first year GCSE.

Very tightly written, delightfully zany interrogation of the medieval comedy genre — like if Monty Python took a crash course in feminism…
The cast and crew were all clearly having the time of their lives and this joy shines through to the audience. I saw this show multiple times and it only improved every single time. Enormous well done to every single wonderful (and hot) person involved in this show!!!

My second time seeing this fantastic show. Lots of laughs, great performances and very enjoyable story.

A lot of fun! Really distinct characters and some really funny jokes. Nothing complex but that’s just what I needed. Some of it could have been a bit tighter and seemed underrehearsed somehow. Think it may have been a case of them performing it so many times they’ve lost the intentions behind the lines. Good show overall.

what a fun and tightly-written show! so enjoyable and a brilliant way to spend an hour (which honestly flew by). 0/10 needs more lute (but you get +10 for being so funny)

Silly and fun as you'd expect, but what stand out are a well paced plot, and defined characters with genuine depth. Enjoyable, confident performances, excellent use of lighting and props. Great energy, recommended.

A fast-paced and bonkers romp by young students who obviously had great fun performing and their enthusiasm and joy were both obvious and contagious.
The Fringe needs more stuff like this.
Indeed, life itself needs more stuff like this :-)

Squires' writing is silly but pin-sharp. A selection of excellently designed props and setpieces transport this tiny black-box theatre to the medieval ages, along with pigstys, dragons and the recent discovery of gravity. Excellent character work is neatly paired with snappy one-liners by a cast who are, without a doubt, having the time of their lives performing this show. A strong recommend - there will be swordfighting, and jousting, and the chance to be demonstratively flirted with.

Really fun and fantastic show! Such a mismatch of genres and references come together to form this absolute banger of a play. Was cackling like a witch throughout. The actors bring an amazing charm to all the characters and as an ensemble the team do amazing! The writing is witty, the actors are charming, and the direction is goofy and whimsical. Would definitely recommend if your looking for a good time!

If you love ‘A Knight’s Tale’, ‘Monty Python’, ‘Horrible Histories’, or anything else of the comedic historical genre, then this is well worth a watch. The characters are funny and charming, and each distinct as an individual. I wasn’t sure at first but eventually found myself giggling away, swept up in their world of misfit squires.

This is 2024’s very own Monty Python and it was raucously funny. With a sharp script and delightful performances from the cast, this grounded show had the type of chemistry you want to see at the fringe. Highly recommend!

OMG. Saw this show today, it's absolutely hilarious, competently penned and Very well acted. All the cast were fantastic but the stand out for me was Phoebe Tompkins playing Phil/Phillipa. She was outstanding, a definite star of the future. Remember her name!
