Description

Germany, 1891. Suppressed in an adult world, a group of youngsters explore their bodies for the first time. The multi award-winning rock musical returns to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with an intimate new production. From the team behind the three-time sell-out, American Idiot, Spring Awakening explores how puberty and sexual awakening is a relevant topic to be discussed with young people. Based on the banned play by Frank Wedekind, the musical is set to an outstanding soundtrack and played by an accomplished band. Let's get woke.

I throughly enjoyed this thought provoking and topical show. The cast was excellent with two or three stand out performances and it’s great to have a live band. They really brought something extra to the show especially with some lovely string solos.

Despite the show itself not really being my taste, I thoroughly enjoyed this production. The production team have done an excellent job and created a very tasteful show that explores some difficult themes. The cast generally were very good, with Melchior being the stand out performer, along with Ilse, who despite her small role, made a big impression. The only problem I had with the cast was one performer didn't follow the tone of the performance and stood out for the wrong reasons. The band were excellent and I was particularly impressed with the contribution to the dialogue, something which is not often required from band members. Generally a very good production, especially given the ages of the performers and their limited experience.

Monday nights show had me in tears of joy, laughter and sadness. Handled darker themes tactfully and with no apparent strain on the quality of acting. The young girl playing Wendla shone out particularly alongside the girl with the strong scottish accent, but all members of this cast added something special to this production. Thank you for a great night!

Will echo everything else that has been said so far. I was particularly impressed with the sign language segment. Very innovative and unique!

I was very impressed by Wednesday nights performance. Bearing in mind this is a young and amateur production, the standard was high and all performers gave it their all! The two leads certainly shone above them all and helped carry the other performers, with their musical numbers and scenes being some of the best points in the show. However, every person on stage gave a strong and powerful performance, making this production something really special. I am excited to see where these young performers go with their careers in the future, as they are certainly beaming with potential!

With this show, Car Crash Productions has taken a brilliant show and made it absolutely beautiful. Such a talented cast who all gave top tier performances. The choreography and direction were incredible and made the show visually mesmerising. Likewise, the vocal and instrumental elements were well rehearsed and beautiful; bringing out the best in both the cast and band. An absolute must see ♡

Extremely impressed by the show tonight. Strong performances from such young actors full of potential. Exceptional performances from the young girl as Wendla, what a voice! Also Melchior and Ilse must also be commended for their performances. All round a very beautiful adaptation of Spring Awakening in an intimate setting. A must see!
