Description
Fronted by Trombonist/Producer Chris Greive, this extraordinary trio approaches the Led Zep canon as devoted fans, paying homage to the massive riffs and weight of the originals by bringing a Living Loving… prog-jazz approach to every song. Graeme Stephen (electric guitar and effects) brings his shredding game to the tribute, with Davide Rinaldi (drums) bossing the Bonham rhythmic shapes with mighty kick drum punches. Add to this, Greive innovating in the bass role by employing an octave pedal (electric trombone)... Soundbone plays Led Zeppelin and everybody wins. Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. Led Zeppelin are probably my favourite group of all time. Although I don’t really listen to their music much now (I think I burnt myself out during my obsessive phase), when I do, I’m always amazed by it. I don’t think any tribute band could ever do them justice and I went to this gig more out of curiousity than expecting anything great. But they were fabulous, and this was one of my favourite shows of the Fringe. They’ve been described as a jazz version of the Zepp and that’s not a bad description at all, although to me it seemed a bit like a slightly jazzed up version of a typical Zepp live set, the guitar and drums in control, tight but loose, and the trombone somehow covering both the keyboards/bass and vocals. Really exploring the depth and complexity of the music. All of the tracks were well-known to me and most were classics (Living Loving Maid is a bit of a throwaway but it helps defuse the tension a bit, Black Dog is pretty obscure but as the trombonist band leader remarked it has some incredible shifts in time signatures). Dazed & Confused is awesome and Going to California is beautiful. Go and see it.

One the best music shows at the fringe. These guys are fantastic and at the top of their game. Would definitely return to see them in future.

With a trombone and no singer, it's not what you think it's going to be.
