Description

After a sold-out run at the Hollywood Fringe Festival (Winner of the Encore! Award) Lady Penelope, the Los Angeles laureate of iambic pentameter and rhyme brings her songs, sonnets and personal issues to Edinburgh! In Sonnets From Suburbia, Lady Penelope AKA actress Penny Peyser (The In-Laws; All the President's Men; Rich Man, Poor Man; Knots Landing) reflects on modern life through her wry, beautifully crafted sonnets, while stubbornly clinging to the world's longest COVID quarantine. An infectious hour of theatre: in the best sense of infectious!

I'm only sad I'm grabbing a moment now to give a review on reflection (stupid fibro)

Anyway, this was a delightfully bonkers and charmingly disarming show, wherein I didn't see the wonderful throughline of a female character working through her own inadequacies as a mother and a human being coming, until it was already upon us. A character that is both familiar and surprising, with an entertaining, trans-Atlantic take on Sonnets, and who reminds us that art, literature, and poetry, are the beautiful adornments in life that can help one get through.

A gem of a show-don't hesitate to go.
A clever endevour-regret it you'll never.
Lady Penelope is the queen of the rhyme-
makes my amateur efforts seem like a crime!

Give yourselves a treat just after the hour of noon
There's merely a week left-so go see it soon!

One of the most clever and funny shows I saw this year!
Penny Peyser is a genius bringing you into her world and this lovely story through eloquently written sonnets. She is a BRILLIANT performer, captivating and warm on stage and effortlessly showering you with songs, jokes and rhymes. I wish I could have seen this show three more times while I was at the Fringe. Definitely leaves you with a smile on your face. Highly recommend!

One of the real gems of the Fringe, "Sonnets from Suburbia" is a quirky, totally original take on love, language and life with songs, real laughs and plot twists that might even give you a lump in the throat. A great mid-day Fringe show. Highly recommended!

This show is full of delightful surprises. And thoroughly entertaining! Hie thee to to the Haldane to take the hilarious and heart-tugging ride with the Dame Edna of sonneteers, Lady Penelope. Two big thumbs up!

Lady Penelope is a delight. Penny Peyser’s clever use of iambic pentameter and commitment to the form is impressive. Loved the costume and the very big wig! Huzzah!
