Songs for a (Brave) New World – Free

Comedy (cabaret, classical)

Description

Songs for a (Brave) New World. Richard Lewis follows up last year's hit show A Cabaret called Hamlet by looking at the state of the world in 2024. Whether it's politics, digital dating, Trump, green issues or political correctness, Richard finds a musical reason to spotlight the natural absurdity of the human race – and if that's not your cup of tea, just sit back and enjoy the piano playing! ‘Not only is Lewis’ patter quick-fire and knowledgeable, but his piano playing is sublime’ **** (JonathonBaz.com, 2023).

Witty, at times close to bone, thoroughly entertaining songs and chat from a truly gifted pianist, bravo and encore!

Songs for a (Brave) New World. Richard Lewis takes us through a smorgasbord of topical themes on a rollercoaster firecracker piano extravaganza! Belter and great fun.

Jerry Lee Lewis meets Rachmaninov meets Tom Lehrer meets AJP Taylor! Lehrer's wit and observational humour, Taylor's historical nous, and the pianistic skills of both The Killer himself and Rach all wrapped up in the "almost 6 ft 5" frame of Richard Lewis. The standouts for me were Lewis' self deprecating song about his height (see previous comment), and his clever variations on The British Grenadiers in a variety of historically relevant styles from Renaissance polyphony up to 50s jazz whilst telling the story of the British Empire...entertaining and educational, and free!

Lovely location for an afternoon of great music and satirical songs. A huge range of subjects were covered - my favourite being the President Putin song. Though the digital dating song was also hilarious…Great entertainment from a very talented performer!

Highly enjoyable, romps along.
Funny, yet not overly cynical, look at the world of today. Intelligent lyrics, well sung and brilliant piano playing.
Highly recommend.

A great show to slip into your afternoon schedule. Funny songs about past, present and future current affairs. Exquisite piano playing by Richard. The bar also sells nice rose prosecco :) Definitely worth a viewing, the hour flies by.

I am a big fan of comedy songs and this did not disappoint. Poking fun at Politics, Online dating and the environment, the lyrics are great and Richard shows off some insane piano talent. Well worth a visit.

This was a fantastic way to start my festival. The piano playing was awesome and the humour in the songs was very satirical. Highly recommended.
