Description

Charlie and Alex have just been kicked out of their flat and are yet to secure another. With no other flat to move into, they journey to sleep on their sofa bed at their friend's flat. This audio play allows the audience to follow the characters as they move across Edinburgh with the sofa bed, delivered through an app, with walking directions through Edinburgh - Starting at the Meadows, ending at Holyrood Park. An Edinburgh local company, this is Get Tae Collective's first theatre piece, exploring the current Edinburgh housing crisis.

I've never experienced a show like this in the fringe!

A fantastic concept piece with a lighthearted yet thought provoking taking me on a lovely walk through the city centre. Taking in a fringe perspective with the city itself as a venue was a first time experience for me as a local who has been to the fringe for over a decade!

Backed up by strong co-lead performances the show balances the comedy of both Edinburgh and the Fringe's quirks, traditions, and characters against the subject matter of the city's housing crisis and the effects it has on younger generations, culminating with a fantastic climax amidst a protest at the houses of parliament.

fantastic use of sound design allowed the action and environment of the play to blend seamlessly with the real-world environments that I was listening in. Jokes surrounding flyering at Bristo Square while watching actual flyerers try and shift their last tickets of the festival was a partifcular highlight for me.

My main criticism of this show would be with the Fringe's delivery of the tickets! Upon purchasing my ticket I wasn't given any info on how to access the show and ended up having to contact the show's organisers themselves! I thought this was a terrible service and if I hadn't been as pro-active with finding the information I needed I might have missed this show entirely!

I think experimental format shows like this one have great potential and need to be supported by the Festival as creators continue to push forward the theatrical possibilities of AR formats and technology. I can't wait to see what Get Tae bring us next year!
