Description

We all know the fairy tales and their immortal final line: happily ever after… But that isn’t real life. Real life doesn’t end happily ever after. Could Aladdin give up the life of a thief? How did Peter Pan cope with aging? What did Cinderella think of Prince Charming? Find out these answers and more in Unhappily Ever After! A collection of poetry exploring the lives of fairy tale characters after their stories end. Warning: this show alludes to some adult themes. If parents are unsure, this is the show's rudest poem: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5U3xri6TVjA

Took kids ages 9&12 and we all enjoyed. Covers serious topics but it will go over kids heads if you've not discussed the topic/they're not aware (mental health, suicide, eating disorders, domestic abuse, canabolism, and more) but in a really fun way. Was very disappointed a woman vetoed the poem that mentioned sex (especially with other topics covered) but was still a great show and a real suprise as we hadn't planned to see it

Surprising, funny, sometimes gruesome, and wonderfully presented set of poems. My daughters (7 & 9) and I really enjoyed the show.

Please come and watch this show … very cleverly done - my 10 year old daughter loved it and so did I … one of those rare shows that both adults and children ( I’d say ideal for ages 8 plus ) can enjoy properly together .

My daughter and I have attended a lot of fringe shows these past weeks and have been fortunate to be able to do so .. some were ‘free fringe’ events -like this - to be honest that wasn’t planned - they were shows which looked good that we wanted to see .. you were able to ‘ pay what you could afford’ but if you couldn’t afford anything - you could turn up and attend for free … the point is to make the arts and some wonderful performances accessible to all .. we ended up donating extra at the end of the those shows because if we had watched them elsewhere they would have been your usual £15 approx a ticket .. it is humbling that these performers choose to do this but -Edinburgh especially at this time of year isn’t cheap to stay , to eat or to travel to .. if you are in our wonderful city and you go to see the fringe please check out some of the free fringe .. pay what you can so that the performers can eat and live - , and if you can drink / eat at the venues to support these businesses too …and keep the arts accessible to all .

An excellent performance from Simon Hall. He dealt sensitively with some younger than intended audience members. The poems are so clever, thought provoking and very funny. A must see for literature lovers and anyone who finds fractured fairytales fun. Intimate but comfortable venue with a bar.

Great show. Imaginative and funny poems. A great performance. The kids really enjoyed it too!

Such a fun show putting a more realistic and modern day slant on what happens in the fairy tales. I found it very funny and the children (9 and 10) enjoyed it too. Don’t worry if you don’t have kids to accompany you - just go along and enjoy.

Very witty romp through all of the favourite fairytales. Not just for kids!
