Description
Witness to a horrifying tragedy, a signalman is haunted by a mysterious figure standing by a railway tunnel. He’s sure it's a warning – but what is it warning against? Paragon Theatre Collective (Fake News, 2019 sell-out show) returns with this fresh and thrilling adaptation of the famous Charles Dickens ghost story. Written after Dickens himself survived a train crash, this version places the signalman at the heart of the story in a compelling solo show. 'Breathes new life into this haunting and spine-chillingly classic tale’ (TheatreAndArtReviews.com).Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. I've just come out from seeing this classic Dickens ghost story, the wonderful Denholm Elliot version in my mind, and this was done justice by Tim Larkfield. It was just as unsettling as the BBC version I remember. Absolutely brilliant and a must see if you get a chance here in Edinburgh or where it goes to next, which is London, I believe?

Tim Larkfield had me gripped from the start and I thoroughly enjoyed this eerie tale from Dickens. The signalman grows in intensity over the 50 minutes and really draws you into the story. Maybe my favourite show this year.

To witness a solitary figure command a stage and completely immerse an audience in the chilling world of Charles Dickens' The Signalman is a rare and unforgettable experience. This one-man show was nothing short of mesmerising.
The performer's ability to embody the isolated and tormented signalman was masterful. Every twitch, every pause, and every carefully modulated vocal inflection drew us deeper into the character's descent into madness. The stage was bare, except for a few props, and became a microcosm of the signalman's solitary existence, a bleak, and haunting landscape of the mind.

Really strong performance and a nice change from comedy at the Fringe. Emotional and enjoyable! Would def recommend!

Oh my goodness I love this story and always have and have seen many different performances of it. This is the best so far. A really interesting way of telling solely via the signalman himself. A fantastic performance - a real must see. You will be gripped throughout.

Original adaptation of the classic ghost story that focuses entirely on the character of the signalman himself, a man unravelling because of experiences he can't understand. Yes it's a ghost story but you'll be less scared and more fascinated by the study of a man in freefall.
Tremendous one-man performance: sorry, don't know the actor's name!

This was simply superb! The mental anguish of the signalman was conveyed so powerfully and sensitively. I have seen The Signalman several times in different productions but this portrayal really brought something different and was utterly compelling from start to finish - just brilliant, thank you!
