A wonderful play written and directed by Matt Anderson, beautifully performed by Fraser Allan Hogg and Lorna Panton. I enjoyed the non-chronological storytelling and the actors snap effortlessly from highly emotional scenes to happy funny banter and back again. Their performances made me laugh and cry. Deserves to be seen on a bigger stage and on screen! Congratulations to all involved. 5 Stars

Engaging performances and a dynamic narrative make this one of the better shows you’ll see at this year’s Fringe

We saw this show last night and loved it. Some very mature writing and the two actors are outstanding. Love and loss and lots of laughter. Highly recommended

Jack Dryden 18 days ago

Loved this show! Really authentic & heartfelt, jumping back & forward through a relationship, slowly revealing trauma beneath. Fantastic new writing from Matt Anderson & performances from Lorna P + Fraser AH.

Compelling structure. Lived in, believable, authentic performances. Assured, unforced direction. Witty, nuanced script. An hour of theatre that breezes by, featuring characters you want to spend time with.

Gayle Kaplan 20 days ago

Outstanding performances by the two actors. I felt as if I was peeking at two people's lives. The show starts almost at the end, and the story goes back and forth in time to tell us how the two characters got there. I especially liked the line, "Why do you think I followed you in here?" that each says at different times.

Shotgunned is the very impressive debut show from the Kangaroo Court company. Written and directed by Matt Anderson, it features Lorna Patton as Roz and Fraser Allan Hogg as Dylan. It starts with the end of their relationship and continues with short, non-linear scenes in the past and future, which illustrate how they interact over time. In terms of style and content, there are echoes of Constellations and Lungs, and Shotgunned is by no means inferior to these masterpieces. The superb performances are alternately funny and moving, leading to an enjoyably enigmatic conclusion. Highly recommended.

“Shotgunned” is an emotional rollercoaster that masterfully captures the complexities of love and loss. Anderson’s storytelling immerses you in Dylan and Roz’s world, making you reflect on the fragility of relationships and the unexpected turns life can take. A powerful, relatable debut that balances humor and heartache with raw honesty

I’ve been coming to the Fringe for a few years, normally come with the family and we see a broad range of theatre, comedy, plays, musicals and sometimes the out and out weird.

This year, I came along with friends, and this set the bar high.
This show was a rollercoaster of a show.

The script writing was captivating, the actors brought this show alive and I was totally engaged throughout the whole show.

The stripped back settings ensured the actors were able to focus on the dialogue. The lighting changes left you wondering where you were going next, you didn’t know, whether you were up, down or sideways.

By the end, I was emotionally drained, from the shows I’ve seen this year, this was the top one by far.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ - Five Stars from me.

I've been coming to Fringe for years............this is why! Bravo to Kangaroo Court and big big bravo to these two really fine actors who find the absolute truth in a story and then tell it.
Huge thanks,

Being as this was my first Fringe experience, I was unsure what to expect, however I was not disappointed.
This story had me captivated from the get-go, which is a great feat, given the sparse surroundings and limited props. The great acting and intense storyline however, more than make up for that. I both laughed and yes, dare I say it, cried, multiple times throughout the performance. Even though the storyline jumps back and forth throughout the characters' relationship, I found it very easy to follow and understand where the various scenes were placing you in the timeline.
If you are looking for a great play to tug on all of your emotions, and acting which will make you feel very related to the characters then don't miss this one, it's thoroughly enjoyable.

A little gem! You go on a journey with the characters over the hour, you get sucked in to their story and become so invested. That is in no small part down to the fantastic performances from the actors of this wonderfully written story. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll be lifted up before you come crashing down to earth again. Bravo to Matt for writing this brilliant little show, and to Fraser and Lorna for two stellar performances. Absolutely loved it, a must see!

I have actually had the honour of seeing this wonderful production in its previous life with different actors, and thought it was an amazing feat then. However Lorna and Fraser have elevated what is already a class piece of writing to a whole other level.

My knowledge enabled me to have an occasional glance round the sold out show, to watch responses from the enraptured audience. Everyone, regardless of age, was enthralled and for 2 actors on stage to bring laughter and so much tears is testament to the strength of Matt’s writing.

I won’t go on, although I could, in screeds - as the reviews below all put it so eloquently. All I will say is get your ticket quick. This show is gathering such pace, you do not want to miss it.

Congratulations to all involved.

The Fringe famously has shows of the highest and lowest quality from all over the world. And when this play began, I thought it would have been of a low quality. But that was because of how perfectly both the performers and writing created an impressively believable atmosphere of awkwardness - so realistic I thought it was not part of the show. It wasn't until about 5 minutes in, I realised that this aura was intentional, which was when I realised just how amazing "Shotgunned" was going to be.

The play is uniquely structured in a way that never failed to keep my full attention. I was enthralled by the stories of the characters, which were revealed bit by bit throughout the piece.

The acting is some of the finest examples of naturalism I have ever seen. Both actors were beyond convincing in their roles; perfectly casted. There were only two actors and two characters, which left for ample opportunity to get to know and form a connection with the protagonists.

There is the perfect mix of light and shade, and the atmosphere was successfully either maintained or changed at exactly the right moments.

This is a piece of new and original writing, and yet the script is of such a high standard. I found the jokes hilarious and was moved by the time the piece had ended. This show had a similar feel to that of Jim Cartwright or Willy Russel, and I may even go as far to say as it achieved just as much if, not even more, than what they did.

I am a fifteen-year-old male, and despite probably not being the target audience, both I and every single one of my friends of similar ages fell in love with this piece. Each and every one of us shed a tear at one point- be it of laughter or sadness. We were all affected by this show.

So I would urge anyone at the Fringe to watch this play. Whether you're a fan of comedy, drama- anything, I can almost guarantee that you would throughly enjoy "Shotgunned". And I can say with confidence that both the playwright and the two actors have a bright future ahead of them.

A deeply affecting play that left me in an emotional state after it ended. Performed and written in such a way I felt I had lived a lifetime with the characters by the end of the hour. It was less of a performance and more of a window into the lives of people you could not help. It was not theatre it was real and it broke my heart.
Five Stars

Brilliantly conceived (no spoiler!), written and performed. I was gripped throughout and completely captured by the piece, as it seems were the rest of the audience who appeared to barely breath. Inspirational young talent

Rob P 33 days ago

So engaging! An hour felt like minutes. A rare intensity of acting talent coupled with excellent writing takes you on a gritty, real, poiniant, sad and funny rollercoaster. Thoroughly enjoyed!

Anton Zherzdev 33 days ago

A simple story from everyday life, but told with such honesty and such level of intimacy by two young talented actors, that you can't not empathize! You can feel the warmth (and heat) between the two lovers as they go through ups and downs of their relationship. The timeline jumps back and forth which undermines the build-up a bit, but I was just savouring every single scene regardless.

Zoe Rippingale 33 days ago

Amazing show, so well acted and written, so clever to do so much with just lights and one costume change. I had a tear in my eye by the end. Would highly recommend.

Charlotte 34 days ago

Intimate and powerful. In one hour, this 2-person show takes the audience through the start and end of a relationship, through all of its highs and lows. Strong writing and excellent performances from both cast members. Highly recommend getting a ticket and going along to this powerhouse of a play.

A tender and emotional story told by two performers with great chemistry. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an hour of entertainment!

Me and my oldest friend were sat not too sure what we wanted to see, and a lovely chap came up to tell us about this show. We felt we couldn’t refuse. I just wanted to make it clear that both actors in this are absolutely brilliant. Tackles a few difficult issues that a lot of us have felt or know about and they have great chemistry together.
When chemistry is that good it’s a pleasure to be so close up with it. It was literally memorising as Roz the girlfriend of the piece broke down in tears right in front of me. And none of the subtly of the awkward looks and such were lost at all. It felt like not a single wasted movement, not a wasted beat. Well written, well directed, beautifully acted. I’d suggest if you like fringe theatre then you have to see this. Because to me it sums up what the fringe festival is all about.

It is an intimate theatre and an intimate show - you see the complex workings of a relationship in a very relatable way. Humour is laced throughout, but without jeopardising the sincerity of the piece. Shotgunned is empathetic, heartfelt, and endearing all at once. Definitely a show, and company, to watch!
