Description

Thoroughly humorous, deeply vulnerable and exceedingly fantastical, Sex, Camp, Rock'n'Roll is a musical cabaret fantasy that boldly explores sexuality and sex work in a raw, bareback fashion. Weaving together a night of story, song and sensuality, Ryan Patrick Welsh, aka the 8th-Best Legs in San Francisco, bares all about their journey as a queer, non-binary horndog in this modern age. Featuring diva duo The K*ntz! and rock band The Gruntz!, buckle up for an evening of refreshing honesty, great music and dazzling entertainment.

This is up there with one of the most beautiful, funny, and heart-warming shows I've ever seen. Not to mention fucking funny! The whole creative team is so slick & SO invested in the story & music that it's impossible not to leave feeling buoyant and inspired. All the stars.

“Sex, Camp, Rock N Roll”
After two years of development and initial performances in San Francisco, Ryan Patrick Welsh (aka “The 8th Best Legs in San Francisco”) blasts onto the Fringe stage with a cabaret show brimming with rock song favorites; high-energy, big-move choreography: fabulous leather-and- net costumes that bare a lot here, there, and everywhere; and a plethora of rapid-fire jokes usually of an x-rating nature. But more importantly, the charismatic Welsh (who immediately makes each of us feel we are already their best friend) weaves throughout the 70-minute extravaganza a brutally and beautifully honest story of their past eight years as a queer sex worker and how that journey has led them now to begin finding, knowing, and loving their authentic self. The star performer is wonderfully supported by the exuberance of the diva duo “K*ntz!” and the contagious beats of 3-piece band “Gruntz.”

I had a whale of a time at this show! Brilliant fun. As others have said, there's camp romping and also earnest, heartfelt discussion, and that does make it special. I think my only quibble is maybe the structure? The transition from the camp romp half was very extreme into the soulful, serious half, and I think both would have been better served/more hard hitting if they'd been more intermixed to act as foils for each other. But, I still loved it - the messages and discussions were important, the singing was exceptional, the performance was incredible. A great hour of cabaret

This is an absolutely brilliant show. Vocals, dance moves, and costumes to absolutely DIE for. Camp through the ceiling, but delicately balanced with moments of emotional vulnerability and poignancy— recommend this SO highly, if you’re reading this you really should go.

Just came home from having seen Sex, Camp, Rock'n'Roll and cannot gush enough about it. I was lured in for the cabaret acts, the pizzazz, which the show is filled with! But it also has such heart and vulnerability to it which tugs at my heartstrings. Such a treat to have something like this at the fringe, we should be so lucky. If you're queer, trans, femme, if you need to feel community, love, and if you want something to laugh and dance along with, it's definitely the show for you. I think it's the most special thing I've seen this year.

Unexpectedly fun and touching - we couldnt recommend this show higher, the juxtaposition of Welsh's stories/message and *incredible* performance - they put their all into it!!! - mixed with the C*nts and the Grunts and the participation of the audience, all blended together to make one hell of a show we're going to recommend to everyone we can!!

What an absolutely stunning show. The cabaret style singing, dancing and costumes are first class, with so much variety from just three performers. They did such an amazing job of relaxing everyone in the room, breaking the ice and ensuring everyone was there for a good time. As the show gradually softens into something very meaningful, a topic I was very unfamiliar with, I found myself so moved by Ryan's stories and experiences. If you want to have a brilliant night and still learn and feel like no where else at the fringe, don't miss this show!

What a show!!!
This is not what I was expecting.
Humour, great singing, spectacular dancing, high octane energy.
And brutally honest and personal.
I truly enjoyed every minute of it.
Thanks for sharing all this with me.
Ryan and the K*ntz are true performers from head to toe and will make you begging for more. :-)

Happiest I’ve been to happen upon a street corner. The show is a delight—funny, well-written, camp, sensitive, and moving. Be prepared for rhinestones, fringe, and a great night out. What are you doing still reading this? Go to the show!

What begins as a brash, in-your-face, hot and horny glittering Vegas-style extravaganza (with the self-confessed “8th best legs in San Francisco” star of the show and his two willing and supremely able K*ntz) takes us seductively, gradually, gently into Ryan Patrick Welsh’s innermost soul. And what a beautiful soul it is. Behind the wise-cracking high-kicking persona is someone deeply reflective. Via a candid and moving exploration of his life choices and relationships, we are given rare insights into the highs and lows and “I don’t knows” of sex, sex work and a life on the stage. A rich voice - that beautifully caresses Fifty Percent and equally belts out Talking Heads Life During Wartime - the best legs in the biz, and stunning costumes make this a richly satisfying night of cabaret/theatre. K*ntz, Grunts and Welsh, thank you - for opening your legs and your heart!

A brilliant show put on by a truly beautiful person. I don’t know if I have ever been so moved by a show at the fringe (and this is my third year here). I wish I could find the words to express how much I loved this show and how significantly it has affected me. It is the perfect blend of funny and moving! Also the singing is out of this world!! I really couldn’t recommend a better show to see!! Five stars all around!!

This show was incredible!! I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish, Ryan Patrick Welsh is captivating and took us on a musical journey through highs and lows. The whole cast are very talented (I love the k*ntz) and we as audience members were invited to be involved in the theatrics and story, I loved it. Very energetic, very vulnerable, very real. Iconic

Charisma like you have never seen. This beautiful story is told by a rag-tag team of stunning performers, whose moves will answer the question "how the hell do they get bodies like those?" and whose dialogue answers the question "how do you fall in love with someone in 1 hour and 15 minutes?". The outfits are impeccable, the jawlines are chiseled, and the caresses are gentle. A graceful and surprisingly delicate performance, I cannot recommend this show enough. Five outta five, and then some.
