Description

What's the English for 'Winter is Jealous of the Flowers'? A word not found in our language, a season between winter and spring: flowers have bloomed but the cold returns. As a sequel to our 2023 show The Blue Hour, Peaks and Valleys offers an all-new program of originals. Guitar, piano, violin, harmonium, banjo and vocal harmonies create a folky sound with elements of classical, ambient metal, spoken word, Celtic reels and Eastern European scales. This is a journey through the emotional nuances of the seasons we have words for and seasons we don't.

We really loved this show and it was a shame that there were not many in the audience on the day we saw it. A very original blend of folk, classical and spoken word. In some ways it reminded us of very early Incredible String Band - it has a certain quirkness to it. Loved the violin, banjo and harmonium playing which all complemented so well to the guitar playing. A delightfully way to spend an hour of your time enjoying a pint while listening to some delightful entertainment.

This is superior music-making and if you have a love of acoustic melody, poetry and song, then you could do no better than grab a ticket to see and hear this in what is such a suitably intimate setting.
