Serious Nonsense

Spoken Word (poetry, comedy)

Description

Funny, horrible and just a little bit naughty, purveyor of playful poetry, Ben Macpherson (BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 2), returns to the Fringe with this perfect gateway into the afternoon through poems and stories for all ages. Delight at the awful adults, beastly brats and curious creatures from this verbal tour de force. Ben's poetry easily sets itself among the likes of Roald Dahl, Spike Milligan and Hilaire Belloc with equal parts magic and mischief that will leave you chuckling long after its final rhyme. 'Full of humour and drive' (Michael Rosen). 'Dizzyingly, dazzlingly brilliant' (Brian Bilston).

Here in Scotland for a MacPhearson clan gathering. So when Ben MacPhearson, poet, handed us a flyer we had to go. Really glad we did. He has no respect for poetry, in a good way, and loves rhyming… actually bad, but hilarious rhyming. He has a great operatic poetry voice and seems deeply knowledgeable about the “field” of poetry. But actively just tosses that all aside as nonsense and just has fun with it. Very enjoyable and highly recommended.

An absolutely delightful experience! My children (7 & 9) and I loved the hilarious poems, Ben's superb voice and performance, and the audience interaction that had all the kids there wanting to share. A real highlight of our Fringe experience. And we're so happy to now have his wonderful book to remember it by, too.

Ben is a wizard with words. His story telling and humour had us all in stitches and his repartee and audience engagement were an added highlight. We all felt truly part of the show. Loved every minute and will definitely look to see him again... Also, do buy his book. It's brilliant!!!
