Description

What would you want to say to your best friend if the world was about to end? Exploring queer friendship, platonic love and nuclear anxiety, Seconds to Midnight asks what happens in a world with no consequences. Diving into the parallels between beginnings and endings, we follow Jo and Eddie through the first seven minutes of their friendship and the final seven hours of the world. Praise for previous work: 'A brilliant addition to the queer theatre landscape' ***** (BroadwayWorld.com). 'Tender and original' **** (Skinny).

So often after a week like this week (completely *drained* from Ed TV Fest!), I’ll be halfway through a show and be drifting off, wishing I could be less tired and more emotionally engaged in what’s no doubt a good show. But with Seconds To Midnight, drifting off is impossible — because with an emotionally engrossing, naturalistic script, gorgeous performances by Elise Busset and Cosimo Asvisio (a star!) and clever staging from Katie Kirkpatrick and Matilda Piovella that really elevates this two hander, I’m tired and drained but still feeling a tug on the heartstrings. Don’t miss!!!

This play is completely engrossing. I didn't think about anything but what was happening in front of me, through the whole thing. The writing is absolutely beautiful - not pretentious, not unrealistic, not forced, but revealing incredibly meaningful insights and ideas through naturalistic, short conversations. You're bombarded with meaning without feeling like you're being bombarded at all. My friend and I both left the theatre crying!!

Thoroughly engrossing and deeply thought and felt play about two queer, platonic, ride-or-die friends and flatmates who have decided to spend the last seven hours of the world together. By utilizing their rapidly vanishing time left on Earth, questions of intimacy, honesty, and authenticity ramble around the sitting room that comprises the entire set. Elise Busset and Cosimo Asvisio have engrossing and sparkling chemistry, switching between playful banter to real-talk with ease—one has no trouble believing these two are best friends. Ultimately, the Jessica Tabraham's script manages to work its way into the heart of the question: is platonic love enough, especially when we're staring down the end of the world? Or, perhaps, is it more honest, and perhaps better?

Seconds to Midnight is an insightful, introspective piece. The show is human in a way that is breathtaking, and will linger with you long after it’s over.
