Description

Is a strong wind all it takes to tip people over the edge? This multimedia thriller is inspired by Joan Didion’s essay on the Santa Ana. A multiplicity of characters are thrown into turmoil by these winds, from an oil magnate in fated pursuit of profit to a disaffected wife with murderous desires. As suicide rates increase and forest fires rage, this new play explores the simultaneous parallel decay of our environment and our mental health. Live videography and electronic score accompany this descent into disorder, as tensions rise to a climactic sensory and emotional overspill.

An incredible and beautifully bold display of talent and creativity!! The show really held my attention throughout and inspired us to have lengthy discussions on the links between mental health and the future of our planet afterwards.

Just what I hope to find in the Fringe. Thought-provoking, absorbing theatre showcasing imaginative new writing, powerful acting, effective use of music and multimedia. Definitely worth seeing!

Fearless and focused, 'The Santa Ana' grapples with big ideas about who we are and how we live. Sparky writing, gutsy performances, and fluid multimedia make this the kind of show the Fringe is all about (or should be).

I have never seen anything that so fluidly balances performance, with essay readings with live video footage with live music. It was such an interesting look into climate change and mental health - and the repeating dialogue gained a new meaning every time. Extremely well crafted and the main actors were so fluent in their performances, and really allowed the non-linear structure to still have emotional weight to it. This has really inspired me to watch more multi-media shows and research more about the Santa ana winds. I would recommend comend it to anyone who wants something different and important!
