Description

Virginia Woolf, Ophelia and ADHD. Rejection sensitivity and the siren call of the sea. When times get tough, sometimes a gal just needs to take some River Time. Fascinated by her own water-based risk-taking urges, Laura brings a zany, comic heartfelt show about choosing not to drown yourself. Neurodiverse Review Emerging Artist nominee 2023. 'An extremely likeable and charming performer... here clearly is a very talented writer' (LondonPubTheatres.com). 'Painful but tender, raw' (Independent). 'The writing is so beautiful but it's also honest – it's written in the way people think' (Audience review, Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2023).

Deeply relatable and moving, but also some great funny bits as well. Highly recommended.

Vulnerable but accessible - powerful and funny - Laura Thurlow's River Time is a masterclass on how to perform feminine angst in a way that finds us clutching our sides with laughter but finally succumbing to tears as the show takes a more sombre, heartfelt turn. If you love strong, crazy women you'll love this - if you fear you're too fainthearted, Laura will match your fears with her own.

A beautiful show comprised of powerful storytelling from Laura Thurlow! Hit something deep and personal. Brilliant writing and skilful performance by the artist! Can’t recommend enough!

Laura Thurlow is a masterful storyteller and competent performer, she talks about the call of the river, rejection sensitivity dysphoria & ADHD, the perfect husband being Leonard Woolf, and strange men who keep viscous urine in bottles in their bedroom. Thurlow has great ability, going from wit and dark humour moments to extremely poignant thought provoking stages of her performance. You will laugh and may shed a tear, but most certainly you will take away a little nugget of thought, leaving the river banks of the show thoroughly enriched. River Time is well worth attending.

River Time! is not only a powerful meditation on the feminine urge to get in a river, but also a darkly comedic look at depression in our times, rejection sensitivity dysphoria, and dating in Central London (without a trust fund OR a dog!). Laura weaves her story and musings with the classic Shakespearean tale of Ophelia and the biography of Virginia Woolf to create something heart-touching that reminds us that we are not alone in our darkest moments.

In this vulnerable and timely piece, it is easy to look in the river and see yourself looking back.

Thurlow as a writer navigates difficult topics with clarity and beauty. The show deals with fear of not achieving, but achieves a marvellous gem in and of itself.
