Description
Was Queen Elizabeth I really a virgin? Was the Spanish Armada lead by a giant inflatable penis? How good was Mary Queen of Scots' head game? Find out in this surprisingly accurate (horrible histories inspired) musical comedy. Join us on an in depth exploration of the folds of a woman who's been documented as much for her body and sexuality as her actual achievements and success. Through scandal, conspiracy and raunchy musical comedy, let us delve into the life of Queen Elizabeth I. After all, there's nothing weird about discussing a 491-year-old's wobbly bits, is there? Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. Apologies for the late review as I know the Fringe is now over! This is a bit of good old fashioned slapstick. A bit rough around the edges and not much nuance. Having said that I did like the blend of humour, historical story telling and enthusiasm of the cast. Shakespeare did a great job narrating and ad libbing and the actor, with lord knows how many costume changes, did a good job of bringing a diverse range of characters to life. She also had a lovely voice. But some of the other characters are probably less suited to musucal theatre :) However, the way they leant into this and just went for it made it funny!
I do wonder if the writer was maybe too influenced by Black Adder? And whilst I'm no prude the vulgarity was at times blatant and cringey. Reminded me of my son when he was 13. Overall I enjoyed the fun and lightheartedness of this show.

Absolutely hilarious and Phenomenal chemistry between the cast! Came away from this show having learned a fair few facts I didn’t know about Queen Elizabeth 1st, between the fits of laughter! Definitely a must see.

Hilariously brilliant show! I was laughing nonstop while also learning new historical facts. It was well researched and also gave me pause for thought. I don’t think there is anything more you can ask for from a show! A must watch - build your fringe timetable around it!

Brilliant new show. Well researched and very funny. Beneath the fun and jokes the show explores an interesting question- why do we care more about Elizabeth's sex life than her achievements as queen?
Something in there for everyone. Go and see this one. Funny yet thought provoking.
