Description

The chilling words of HG Wells are brought to life in this one-woman storytelling show. Could you spend the night in the infamous haunted chamber of Lorraine Castle? Armed with a single torch, our sceptical narrator attempts to do just that. Ignoring the warnings of its three eerie custodians, she soon learns for herself why the room has such a dark reputation... and the grim fates which befell previous occupants. Gripping and often darkly funny, this brand new and original piece of theatre is guaranteed to send chills down your spine and stir your imagination.

A beautifully written, well acted play with superb lighting and sound effects all of which invokes a feeling of suspense. The use of a single scarf to portray the different characters is genius along with the well accomplished different accents Ellie easily slips into so there is no confusion as to which character is speaking. Thoroughly absorbing with a satisfying conclusion. Not to be missed.

Effective story, beautifully acted and engaging. Not overly long, so kept the momentum and interest going. Would highly recommend.

Absolutely wonderful! Ellie Ball is a delight in this excellent adaptation of a classic H.G. Wells' story. I loved her shifts from character to character, using just a scarf and her brilliantly specific choices about each role. The direction makes great use of the tiny space, and the creeping terror of the story unfolds at a perfect pace. One-person performances of classic prose stories can sometimes be a slog, but not this one; I was riveted from start to finish. In fact, I left the theater eager to read the original story. H.G. Wells would be proud.

Wonderfully engaging storytelling. The atmosphere created was perfect (loved the cracking fire) and we were on the edge of our seats. Very enjoyable.

As well as giving his readers a good scare, Wells also wanted to illustrate that often, the only thing to fear is fear itself. That message comes across here, but not before we’ve become so swept up in the drama, we’ll believe just about anything.
