Description
Three childhood friends reunite after one of them finds success in her children's book series The Rat King Gospels. But whose idea was The Rat King? Is he merely a storybook hero? Secrets begin to unravel as they piece together the untold story of what really happened to the monstrously cruel headteacher, Mr Mackenzie. Rat King Gospel is a new drama touching on themes of morality, friendship, responsibility and childhood trauma. The play explores how the games we play as children can stick with us as adults in ways which we never could have imagined. Please note that while all media gallery content is provided by verified members of the event, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society does not review or approve this content before it is posted. If you haven’t seen this you have one last chance so don’t miss it. Gripping from start to finish of three friends old school friends who meet up and secrets are laid bare on the table.
Well done to the three actors and hope this opens the door for your future.

A must see play on the mile. A dark story with well crafted characters which kept me guessing throughout. As the play progresses you only admire and sympathise with the characters and their situation more, eager to see its conclusion. A thought provoking story brought me in and the performances really sold the story to me, and I recommend to anyone with a free afternoon, go see this.

Captivating show from beginning to end. The Rat King Gospel invited their audience on an intriguing and dark 'tail' that made the audience feel as if they too were part of the show. Experiencing the sharp twists and turns the characters were also facing. Each actor gave a strong and vulnerable performance to which I was most impressed by :)

An interesting play that has a decent concept. The actors are great and are believable in their interpretation of their given characters. Direction is a little odd and the 45min run time means it lacks the time needed for a more concrete story and conclusion. This is still worth a look before the end of its run.

Intriguing and highly thought provoking. This play is a wonderful exploration of the filter of childhood and how as we grow up we are forced to remove the veil of naivety and explore the grey morality of the world. Can things be simply right and wrong? Or is the world alot more complicated than that? I thought the actors did a great job in weaving through this discussion and really brought the play to life! The direction is great aswell and the entire team should be very proud. Do yourself a favour and watch this before it goes!

Interesting concept for a show! Strong performances done by all actors and polished transitions between perspectives. I enjoyed the twists and turns and loved to sit in the uncomfortable energy of friends coming back together after so long apart. Glad to have added it to the fringe roster this year.

Rat King Gospel is an intense and gripping exploration of the complexities of human relationships. This play weaves together a narrative that is as emotionally charged as it is thought-provoking.
The story centers around three childhood friends, who are forced to confront deeply buried secrets when they meet again as adults. As the layers of their memories of their childhood begin to unravel, the audience is taken on a journey through a labyrinth of emotions, questioning the very nature of right and wrong.
What sets Rat King Gospel apart from other dramas is its refusal to offer easy answers. It’s a deeply unsettling, yet ultimately rewarding experience that challenges viewers to reflect on their own lives and the masks they wear.
In conclusion, Rat King Gospel is a must-see production for anyone who appreciates theater that pushes boundaries and explores the darker aspects of the human experience. With outstanding performances, compelling direction, and a narrative that stays with you long after the curtain falls, this play is poised to be one of the standout dramas of the Fringe Festival.
