Description

Set in a future where AI has gradually replaced human beings in the field of art, Picasso 2033 reflects on the future of art through the story of AI-drawing trainer “Mr Satisfaction”. Returning to the house where he once lived with his mother, his memories are awakened by seeing her unfinished painting, created in her later years, when she was suffering from Alzheimer’s. His exploration of the protagonist in the painting leads to a deep reflection on the nature of art and AI, and on where the identity and creativity of human beings is headed.

A truly heartfelt and touching piece of theatre created by passionate young minds. I was really impressed by the amount of thought and effort that went into the making of the show. It was sophisticatedly written and meticulously devised with great depth and nuances, thriving both on theatrical complexity and emotional warmth. While disguised as an exploration of the human relationship with A.I., the play's true focus gravitated towards unraveling a precious mother-daughter connection lost in fragments of time. I genuinely enjoyed the viewing experience, though I found the performance space too limiting for the ambitious ideas and potential the play holds. With stronger technical support in the future, I will see you guys on the stage of National Theatre one day :)

"Picasso 2033" is a poignant and visually striking exploration of memory, identity, and the meaning of art in an AI-dominated world. Gawa Leung and Tāng Yuè deliver powerful performances as a mother and daughter navigating the complexities of love, loss, and suppressed creativity. The narrative is both heart-wrenching and thought-provoking, as the daughter uncovers hidden pieces of her mother's past, challenging the notion that authentic art can ever truly disappear. The show weaves together the themes of generational conflict, the impact of technology, and the enduring power of human expression in a dystopian future. A must-see for those who appreciate art that resonates deeply on both an emotional and intellectual level.

Picasso 2033 is a show about love and memories with amazing theatre settings.
As ai generates our technology and evolutes archive. Memories turn to be a visualized diary that offers us to review and check some missing parts of our jigsaw.
Through their wonderful performance, I am deeply touched by devoted love.
