Description

A pathological bureaucrat. A private eye with adult ADHD. A French mime on a sinister mission. And connected to them all is Huber, a genius writer who would publish the most brilliant work of fiction ever created – if only he could finish the first sentence. An original story about creativity, community, and those elusive epiphanies that seem to slip through our fingers the moment we begin to speak them aloud. Over 10 darkly hilarious chapters, Noah Levinson delivers a tour-de-force of comic storytelling. 'Witty, wise, touching' (Ashley Ramsden, The Storyteller's Way).

This is what the Fringe should be.
To hold an audience's attention through storytelling alone for about an hour is already a magnificent feat. To have them hanging on every word, to laugh and gasp throughout is a testament not only to Noah Levinson's comedic delivery, brilliant character work and mastery of pacing, but also to the hilarious and textured world he creates. It felt like being a child hearing a bedtime story again in the best possible way, but with a message far more resonant and poignant- especially for those creatively inclined.
The venue is intimate and Noah utilises this to perfection. In what on paper sounds (and delivers to be) a surrealist show- people should be rest assured you are put at ease immediatley and immersed fully into the world of Middling Heights. I won't spoil any of the specific characters or beats, but the fictional town and the goofy inhabitants Levinson has crafted make you never want to leave. They are hilarious, wacky and entirely unique- but each one speaks to something true. You won't want to leave the town of Middling Heights when the story is done, and I would love to hear more stories there in the future. The storytelling format works perfectly (and the sheer impressiveness of Levinson having ALL OF IT in his head with no prompts or notes is an amazing feat!)- but I couldn't help but think how fun it would be for this world to one day come to life in TV or film too!
Noah himself was a lovely host, and the experience feels too good to be Free Fringe. I cannot recommend enough- go support, and give your money! The story of Huber and his creative procrastination will inspire you, as it inspired me. Don't procrastinate like him- see it at once! Even Le'Preouve could not find fault with this.

A wonderful show, quite possibly my fringe highlight of this year. An off-kilter and funny story told by a master storyteller. I was enthralled thoughout, can't recommend highly enough.

Beautifully written and masterfully delivered, this loveably quirky tale introduces us to a series of larger-than-life characters, each of them comically grotesque yet eerily familiar. The show deserved a bigger audience than it got when we went. (Why aren't there more Fringe venues in Leith? It's but a gentle stroll away, it has great pubs and more events down there would generate critical mass...)

Excellent show - endearing characters well drawn with a story that draws you in and hold your attention until the conclusion. Witty, charming and funny - highly recommended!

A really well crafted storytelling experience. The text is really precise and well written, the one-man delivery is compelling, and the characters are very endearing. Can’t believe this is « free fringe »!

The general experience felt intimate, and the story is family friendly, in a mad, wacky way that resonated with the (mostly) grown up person I am. Congrats to the writer-performer for weaving this together.
