Description

Misty Last: Academy Award Winner, Buzzfeed 'where are they now'-er. Carly Gibson: salt-of-the-earth, boss bartender, with a freeloading cousin. When her stage mom runs off with her money, Misty is broke, squatting on her cousin’s sofa "up north", and working behind a posh hotel bar. Think Victoria Wood meets Lindsay Lohan. With the added complication of a possessed 80s cheerleader. Comedy/Drama.

This one-woman show features one woman who is scary-talented. From the first moment she draws you in and doesn't let go for a second. She switches characters and moods and circumstances smoothly and effortlessly. And the sparse tech and economical set-design work well to outline and highlight the drama and the comedy. It's just the right amount of everything, and the 50 minutes fly by. I want more! I believe I'll see it again!

This writer’s voice is really something: these intertwined monologues are densely gag-packed, full of clever surprises, and have an authenticity, purpose and bite to them too. It's rare and thrilling to see someone combine the observational ‘write what you know’ thing with something that's simultaneously so bold and imaginative. She’s a vivid, captivating performer too, and the production doesn’t go short on theatricality. This is well worth staying up late for. I'm very glad I caught this deeply impressive piece of work, from a writer-performer with a bright future.
