Description

A funny, candid and poignant solo show about the unique and crazy relationship between Milanka and her flamboyant Serbian mother, Lela. A touching story of a female double-act who hustled together through life’s challenges. Two women who’d discuss everything from perfecting their exercise routine, to libertine lovers to scissoring. But why do Mum and Milanka not talk anymore? World premiere and writing debut by/starring Milanka Brooks (Black Mirror: USS Callister, Benidorm, The Windsors). Directed by Ben Cavey (Producer of Bad Education, Jack Whitehall: Travels With My Father, Grandma's House, Psychobitches).

This show had: some very funny one liners, a story that was unique and worth telling, and characterisation that left you wanting more. However, the constant blackouts, slow transitions, and looking down at the floor from time to time made me want to see this show again when it’s reached its full potential.

Expertly written, directed, and executed! What a fantastic job at story telling. The highs are perfectly placed, the sadder moments are perfectly placed, and you leave feeling joy and warmth at now knowing about Milanka's mum.

This is a really superb show that deserves a wider audience. The Fringe-Show-As-Personal-Therapy has been absolutely done to death, so if you’re going to centre the story around personal or family tragedy, then you’re going to need three things: a powerful central performance, a fascinating character to build the story around and a unique story to tell. Happily, Milanka has all three.

The storytelling is fast, furious and funny. Happy jokes and sad jokes. Props and sets are minimal, but she is extremely animated and she really delivers the story physically.

Milanka does an amazing turn as her mother, to the point that even without her speaking or moving, you can tell which one she’s doing just from how she holds her face muscles (that’s not Milanka as Milanka on the posters, btw, she’s channelling her mum straight at you).

A must see.

SUCH an amazing show! Milanka’s energy as Lela is infectious, and she hooked my friend and I right out the gate!! She’s a very skilled performer; not afraid to commit to the emotional bits and draw the audience in. A great balance of grounded and energetic! Highly recommend.

I don’t know how a show can be so funny and so heartbreaking at the same time but this one manages it. Absolutely incredible performance by the lead, it’s definitely worth a watch!

We went to see the show on a whim and were so glad we did. Great show, such good energy. We laughed out loud many times and enjoyed the surprising narrative, warm-heartedness and the friendly atmosphere.

Milanka has created a very honest show. Whilst none of us have an objective picture of who we are, she lays out who she sees in the mirror as best she can.
