Description

Think you know your Shakespeare? Think again! This is Shakespeare as you’ve never seen him before – ‘trippingly on the tongue’… Migrant actors take on the Bard, reinterpreting his words in alien environments you will never have imagined before. They give his iconic characters a new life, migrating them into the roles assigned to outsiders by society. Hamlet is a meat-packer, King Lear a construction worker, Caliban a hotel cleaner, Lady Macbeth a housewife looking after children, and Shylock washes the dishes in a restaurant. This is no one Bard: Shakespeare belongs both to no-one and to everyone.

  • Accessible entry: Entrance to main house and accessible toilet is via level entrance to halls to halls from Lauriston Street (slight downward slope to floor in foye). Accessible toilet in ground floor foyer, adjacent to space.

How and when to make an access booking

Our access tickets service is available to anyone who:

  • Would like to book specific accessibility services, e.g. a hearing loop, audio description headsets, captioning units, seating in relation to the location of the BSL interpreter
  • Requires extra assistance when at a venue
  • Has specific seating requirements
  • Is a wheelchair user
  • Requires a complimentary personal assistant ticket to attend a performance

Having speeches from Shakespeare's plays performed by actors playing the roles of classroom assistants, waiters and baristas really added a new dimension to the Bard's words - highly recommended!

Admittedly, I didn't understand many of the words, but the hospitality, atmosphere, actions, gestures and smiles spoke to me. Not just me... that most of the audience ended up dancing on stage with the cast was understandable. --- go see it and just enjoy --- it really doesn't matter that lady Macbeth did not just worry about a spot on her baby's blanket. I love Shakespeare for the wisdom I can find in his works for my life today and this what these actors also found for their lives. Often to my surprise but then surprises are to be expected when dealing with Shakespeare.
This show deserves a bigger audience!
