Description

Through haunting original music and rich spoken word, an actor-musician band deliver a feminist retelling of Mary Queen of Scots' story. The folk-rock show searingly questions the treatment and portrayal of women historically and today. Following a sold-out production in February, the Marys are back by popular demand for the Fringe. 'Fifty mesmerising minutes' **** (The Student Newspaper). ‘Lifting original songs and lyrically genius spoken word’ **** (CorrBlimey.uk). ‘The perfect blend of music, narrative and humour’ **** (TheBroad.org), ‘A total triumph - unbelievable talent, West End here they come…’ (Audience review, 2024).

Wow, what can I say, just absolutely awesome, spell binding, emotive and fiesty. The Mary's just had the audience in the palm of their hands from the get go and held them there for the whole show. Excellent musicianship on display and the director has done an amazing job in developing the show to be both intimate and powerful. This show needs to be seen by wider audiences, hope someone sees its huge potential and helps this talented cast and crew on to a bigger stage.

I don’t think I’ve ever been as devastated to see a show sell out before. MORE people should be able to see it! I wish I could go and convince all of my friends to go and buy tickets to see this uniquely engaging performance that captivates and transports the audience. A truly fantastic feat with a truly deserved standing ovation. Can’t wait to see where you take this show next, and I sure hope you do!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Show stopping, spellbinding, superb show! Once again spending an evening with the incredibly talented Mary’s and the wonderful music. Completely and utterly transfixed on the wonderfully talented (and coolest) girl group. The talent spilling out from both on stage and off stage is indescribable - can’t wait to see what’s next!

This show felt like we had stumbled into a small and perfectly formed evening with Alanis Morissette and Sheryl Crow. Wow, just wow! These women tell the timeless story of Mary Queen of Scots through haunting lyrics and moving monologues; spine-tingling duets and if you ever needed an example of quality rock ensemble - this is it. We left feeling we wanted more… we have surely not seen the last of Mary: A Gig Theatre Show! Fabulous

Mary: A Gig Theatre Show has firmly secured itself as my favourite show of the 2024 Fringe so far. Strong performers, stunning music and beautiful storytelling come together impeccably to tell Mary’s story and to do her justice where many historians have failed in the past. I’m certain that we have not seen the last of this show.

This run has already sold-out at the Edinburgh Fringe, and from tonight’s performance it’s clear to see why – this fresh and innovative look at one of Scotland’s most misaligned women from history retells her story in modern and dynamic fashion.
