Description

In this gripping theatrical adaptation of William Golding's classic novel, a group of children find themselves stranded on a deserted island. As they struggle for survival, they descend into chaos, grappling with the tensions between order and savagery. Led by two conflicting leaders, Ralph and Jack, the children confront their inner demons and the harsh realities of human nature. Delving deep into themes of power, morality and the fragility of civilisation, Lord of the Flies offers a riveting exploration of the darkness that lurks within us all. Compelling theatre from a talented young cast.

Lord of the flies- Aquilla youth theatre.. one of the best shows I’ve seen at the fringe for a long time! It’s quite chilling at times but a true and fair adaptation of the book. William Golding would be proud!

James Gordon 134 days ago

Extraordinarily accomplished performances by actors in their early teens or younger, in other words the right age for their characters. Vivid portrayals and fierce interactions, with not a weak link in the cast. Some key sequences are mimed or almost danced, evocatively lit. A surprise at first to find one of the youngest-looking, slightest actors playing Jack, but he brings Napoleonic forcefulness to the part - perfectly credible.
This adaptation holds the attention of young and older audience alike for an intense 90 minutes - a great achievement.
A conversation on the way out made me wonder if the title needs explanation. William Golding took it for granted that his readers knew 'Lord of the Flies' means Beelzebub. This is probably no longer the case.

If you‘ve got the chance to see these young folks playing, you should even let shows go you might have booked earlier. It is absolutely a must! Hard to believe the actors are teens, seeing the quality of performance they put on stage! All roles, whether big or small, really hit it! Excellence on stage. We traveled some distance and it was absolutely worthwhile. (The two Germans)

What a fabulous and powerful piece of theatre. The excellent sound work and convincing performances transport the audience to an uninhabited island where a group of schoolchildren descend rapidly from meetings and the conch to chaos, savagery and then murder. Excellent work Aquila Youth Theatre!

A brilliant and intense youth production of this classic story. Atmospheric production and some very strong performances from a talented young cast that really capture with conviction the decline into savagery (and the attempts of some of the group to resist that). Highly recommend. Well done Aquila!

This company get better every year. The young actor who thanked the audience at the end of the show said they work really hard to get this to stage. That must be right given the quality of the performance. Well done again and hope we keep seeing you year after year.

Bravo to this amazing troupe of young performers. They portray the story with understanding and bring great energy to sharing this. The individual characters in the play are well defined and represent the range of responses to the horror of the story. We will definitely see this again. Well done Aquila youth.

This gripping, well rehearsed and utterly gut wrenching rendition of the classic Lord of the flies is truly not a show to miss. Hats off to the young cast and the crew whose talent and hard work was clearly reflected in their incredible performance I saw this afternoon.

These kids are just amazing. Such depth of emotion and such a true depiction of the story. Brilliant casting, great energy in the show and a great reminder about the power and danger of group-think and the drive to take sides. Thank you Aquila youth.
