Description

Eighteen children, one island... an incredible adventure turns into a fight for survival. Aquila Youth Theatre's compelling production of William Golding’s explosive 20th-century classic comes to the Fringe in 2019. Struggling with the conflict between the human impulse towards savagery and the rules of civilisation, the children are swept up in a power struggle and descend into violence that will shatter their innocence. This visceral story is all the more relevant in 21st-century Britain where violent crime is becoming increasingly rooted in our society. Do not miss this powerful, adrenalin-filled production.

Once again Aquila have produced a dynamic and enthralling production. A talented group of 13 year old actors selected from schools in England and Scotland deliver an energetic ensemble piece. While Golding's novel is a bleak presentation of what children might do if left together, this production was visually and aurally engaging. If you are a fan of the novel, this is a must see.

My attendance was triggered by the book having been included in the syllabus for my English Higher Grade in the mid-70s. The storyline was well covered by the young actors. The acoustics led to some of the narrative being muffled. I loved the enthusiasm of the young troupe.

Aquila Youth Theatre bring a splendid adaptation of Lord of the Flies vividly to life. Imaginatively staged, this is a terrific piece of ensemble work.

William Golding’s classic Lord of the Flies is transferred onto the stage in all its savage glory in this play exploring violence, gang culture, and the collapse of order and civilisation.

The familiar story is set in the backdrop of World War 2, with group of evacuees (all of them young boys) suddenly finding themselves stranded on an island after a plane crash. After all the boys gather, the heroes of the story, Ralph and Piggy, try to establish some rules with the aid of a large shell.
