Description

A joyful, captivating comedy about love, cancer and running for a really long time. When Katie's mum is diagnosed with cancer, her life grinds to a stop. But when she meets an elderly man in the radiotherapy waiting room corridor - everything changes. Created by multi award-winning writer-performer Katie Arnstein (Sexy Lamp, Sticky Door, Wolverine Woman) and directed by New Diorama's Artistic Director Bec Martin, The Long Run is a tender, emotionally rich - and frequently hilarious - story about human connection, cancer diagnosis and long-distance running. Nominated for an Offie for Best Performance Piece 2023.

Stunning show, full of humour and reflection on the importance of community. A very human story and the authenticity shone through the writing. I hope this show can be shared more widely - could be a lovely book or film. There was a standing ovation at the performance I went to and it was fully deserved!!

A fringe show that actually deserves 5 stars. I could not fault a single element about it. From the story, its structure, the characters, the meaning. Top of my fringe experience, for sure.

An absolutely beautiful show, hugely emotional and deeply human as well as being very funny at points. The show is skilfully written and performed with a lovely lightness of touch. It will probably make you cry a lot, but in a very good way.

Katie Arnstein has the talent to make you laugh and cry in just the right amount as she tells the story of her mother’s diagnosis and treatment for cancer. Super production and performance. Don’t miss it.

I loved Katie Arnstein’s previous show “Sticky Door” and was even more impressed by The Long Run. She is warm, funny and so competent that despite the painful content of the show you feel in safe hands. There are multiple gut punches but balanced by so many funny moments the painful ones feel bearable. There was an instant standing ovation at the end of the performance I went to which was well deserved. My stand out best show this Fringe.

Fear not, whilst the big C is not generally a cheery subject, this two hander show offers an energetic, heartfelt and rather charming performance. A life affirming hour that will leave you smiling.
