Description

Join Australian musical comedian Darby James for his multi-award-winning cabaret about the process of sperm donation. On this unforgettable voyage with all original songs, Darby clicks a Facebook ad and gets swept up on an hilarious, heartfelt adventure. As he navigates medical questionnaires, psychological evaluations and musings on potential parenthood, Darby finds himself stranded as a seaman in moral purgatory, facing the question: should we be having children? Winner of the Edinburgh Touring Award and Best Cabaret at Melbourne Fringe Festival 2023, and nominated for six Green Room Awards, Darby James dives headfirst into his international debut.

Can I give more than 5 stars, 7, 8,9....Darby's fringe debut performance is exceptional ! He navigated the entire gamut of dilemmas around parenting however you identify, gay, queer or heteronormative. I took my friend as a birthday treat and we both loved it, totally original script deluvered with charm and panache by Darby. I am grateful we were early for front row seats.
Briiliant, dont miss this one

Loved it! 5 stars! If you’ve ever asked yourself the question “do I want children?” (No matter your gender) this show is for you! I found it really relatable and helpful to have some of those big questions reflected back to me all inside a funny and light hearted show. Highly recommend!

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed this musical. The real triumph of the show is the lyrics which succeed in driving the story along smoothly while also working in really clever rhymes (like "peruse" and "FAQs"). A few of the monologues felt a bit on-the-nose and the tonal shift from tongue-in-cheek lyrics to more preachy prose was at times abrupt, but on the whole the musical really just 'worked.' The song about writing a letter and "the violence of your life" are songs that will stick in my head. Darby James has taken a subject that could be puerile and superficial and milked it (apologies for the pun) for all its sensitive and emotional depth.

A musical masterpiece and a thought provoking story of Darby James and the process he went through (physically, emotionally and mentally) of donating sperm. Whether you have had children, thought about having children, or whether you've ever considered donating, there are aspects of Derby's story that can be related to by everyone. One of Edinburgh Fringe's most exciting new acts that I recommend everyone should see.

Darby is so likeable and engaging - it's so difficult for solo performers to keep a rooms attention like that but we were all hooked. His voice is fantastic, especially in the last big numbers. The show itself is really well written, cheeky but wholesome and thought provoking all at the same time. I'd highly recommend!

I loved every bit of the show. It's a musical from top to bottom, with original witty songs. The sperm donation topic is approached from a reflective philosophical point of view in a way that it’s 100% enjoyable and leaves you thinking about it no matter what gender you identify with.

Best show I've seen so far at Fringe (out of a dozen)! Brilliantly done, Darby hit the trifecta of terrific. writing, acting, and singing, and the venue is quite intimate. A very thoughtful and personal play. Highly recommend it!

A moving show full of laughter and tears. Darby James sensitively shares the emotional roller-coaster of donating sperm through witty lyrics and profound reflection. The audience clearly loved it. I went home uplifted.

I left the show understanding far more about how the donors would perhaps feel about their role in the process.

Little Squirt is a warm and saucy hour of autobiographical musical comedy that manages to prod at some surprisingly profound issues, and James’s surprisingly tender climax hints at still more revelations to come.
