Description

Richard Lewis follows up last year's hit show A Cabaret called Hamlet by looking at the life of the legendary Liberace. As the world's most successful entertainer in the 1950s – and a regular Las Vegas headliner through to the 1980s – we hear from the man himself about his life, his love of excess and what made the world adore such an unlikely celebrity. ‘Not only is Lewis’ patter quick-fire and knowledgable, but his piano playing is sublime’ **** (JonathonBaz.com, 2023).

With a vague memory of Liberace from TV when I was young, I had no idea what to expect.
The show blew me away with it's understated elegance; style; story telling, and Richard Lewis's amazing piano playing. The grand piano , and the cabaret style setting , ensured an intimate and very moving experience.
Our party of 4 has a very mixed musical taste, yet we all relished every bit of the performance, and were sorry when it ended.

Its so good I am going back tomorrow again; that's a first for me at this or any other fringe.

Brought up on a love of Liberace through my dad - I was excited to see what this show might offer. But I never imagined it would be the tour de force that it was. Richard Lewis is absolutely spellbinding. An amazing musician, raconteur and all round showman. He captured the essence of Liberace, telling his story in a simple and powerful way that was both funny, and at times deeply moving. The setting of St Stephen’s Theatre is beautiful and sublime, one of the very best at the fringe, and the piano (that we learnt from a very helpful venue assistant, was once played by Chopin) is stunning. This is a show that deserves a huge audience. Absolutely recommended!

This show simply works so well. St Stephens is a beautiful venue in Edinburgh New Town. The cabaret style tables set the scene and what follows is a wonderful hour of entertainment. Richard is a great musician. Highly recommended.

I was so impressed with the solo show of Richard Lewis I accidentally stumbled into, that I thought I had to give his show on Liberace a go too. And I have to say I wasn’t disappointed! In the amazing setting of the Saint Stephen’s Centre I was immediately taken back to the extraordinary virtuosity and glitter of Liberace’s shows - All done through a magnificent telling of his upbringing and life. For anyone who likes great music and great storytelling this is a must.
