Description

When some teenage boys (played by female-presenting actors) get lost in the wilderness on Duke of Edinburgh, they feud, flirt and fornicate in a way that forces us (and them) to ask – is there hope for modern men? Getting stranded was not on rugby captain Lewis Smith’s 2024 bingo card. Now, all he has to do is try not to shag his best friend. Or be converted into a misogynist. Or get his DofE group high on shrooms. Or come to any earth-shattering realisations about the performative nature of masculinity. What could go wrong?

This show, lighthearted and much alike one I saw a couple months ago in London (1 tent, 4 girls), was lovely. We are told the story of a group of school boys (gender flipped) who are lost in the woods on a DofE trip. In a battle that begs the question “what is manly enough”, we are taken down a road of hilarious jokes (made better by scottish and Irish accents) to watch a slow-burn love story that absolutely “isnt gay” in the slightest. I loved the staging in this show and thought that the actors were extremely impressive. To not break character amongst so much laughter is impressive in itself! Glasgow uni’s student theatre (STAG) did a great job with this one and you could definitely tell that the actors were all friends (which is always a plus for chemistry). Looking forward to seeing their other shows!

The play cleverly tackles the complex issue of toxic masculinity in adolescence with a perfect blend of humor and insight. Through a series of exaggerated yet relatable scenarios, it portrays how young boys often feel pressured to conform to harmful stereotypes of masculinity. The characters are hilariously over-the-top, each representing different facets of the macho ideal—from the overly aggressive athlete to the emotionally repressed “tough guy.”

The play is a must-see, featuring outstanding performances by four talented actors who bring depth and energy to every scene. The intelligent script is sharp, witty, and thought-provoking, making the story both engaging and meaningful.

I highly recommend everyone go see this play—you won’t be disappointed!

A clever, funny script with plenty of twists and unexpected gags, as well as a few predictable ones, performed with faultless timing by 4 actors who are anything but typecast, to brilliant satirical effect. What is masculinity and is it toxic, hallucinogenic or merely normal?

Thoroughly enjoyed this show - it was hilarious. Satirical and witty, it lit up my afternoon. The script was fantastic and the acting was exceptional - Gibbons was particularly funny. I loved the dubbed over moments, as well as Baxter's incessant idiocy. I think one of the main things was that it genuinely looked like they had a great time acting in it, electrifying the stage constantly. 6/5.

This show is genuinely one of the most incredible pieces of theatre I have ever seen. The cast is so talented and have perfected the comedic element of their show. You can tell by watching that the cast enjoys what they do which adds to the overall enjoyment in the piece. The hyper-masculinity portrayed by the cast, as well as their chemistry had me so incredibly invested and interested in the story. The bond between Lewis and Kieran was heartwarming to see and the chemistry between the actors was wonderful to watch. I could not recommend this performance more- thank you so much for the incredible cast and crew!

This was the first show I saw at the 2024 Fringe Festival and it was genuinely such an amazing way to begin my experience here!!! The energy from every single one of the cast members was fantastic, the set and tech added to the atmosphere so well and overall it was just so enjoyable. One of the funniest shows I've ever seen, and I don't think there was a single moment where I wasn't giggling!! I would highly recommend this show!

This was genuinely one of the best shows I’ve ever seen in my three years coming to the fringe!!! The comedic timing and stage presence was truly at the highest skill level! My friends and I all left with the biggest smiles on our faces and couldn’t stop talking about how blown away we were! Also the whole cast seem like such lovely people! This truly is a must see!!’
