Description

Katzenmusik (German, n.) caterwaul; a shrill howling or wailing noise (of a cat). The income gap between rich and poor has pushed residents of Burnside to breaking point; unscrupulous landlords take risks with tenants' lives, and furious tenants take action. KGS Theatre Company, returning to the Fringe following their critically acclaimed hit, The Ofsted Massacre, presents Tom Fowler's Katzenmusik, a darkly comic story about social inequality and upheaval, told in reverse. Featuring a viral video, a company exploiting fears, prank calls, class divide, and a cat memorial, this biting commentary on social hierarchy is not one to be missed.

"Katzenmusik" by the talented students from KGS is an impressive showcase of young theatrical talent at this year's Edinburgh Fringe. The performance is exceptionally well-acted, with each student bringing depth and energy to their roles. The play's engaging narrative and strong ensemble work kept the audience captivated throughout. Having enjoyed their 2022 production of "The Ofsted Massacre," I was thrilled to see that this year's show continues their tradition of high-quality, thought-provoking theater. KGS students have once again proven themselves to be a highlight of the Fringe.

A wonderful performance by a talented troupe of young actors. The play based on a true story deals with some serious sociopolitical issues interpreted through some dark comedy and great acting. No cats were injured during this performance.

I just saw the first performance of Katzenmusik and I must say that I'm quite impressed. With a running time of 90 minutes and a cast of 16 this show obivously wasn't designed to be performed at the Fringe only. And a large cast in a play performed by students usually isn't a good sign because this often means that even the least able applicant had to be pressed into the play. NOT in this play though! Every member of the cast has his or her specific function and serves this function splendidly. Several members of the cast even play multiple roles. The costume changes and the changes in language, posture and facial expressions are very convincing and amazing to watch.
The story is a bit confusing at first, because there are many separate scenes that only after some time merge together. But even when the connection between the different threads is still not clear the acting is wonderful and joy to watch.
Congratulations!

A real gem for the morning slot when not much else is on. Quite dark in places but delivered with real comedy too!

This is a complex play but the young actors have clearly worked hard to explore its every nuance, so that the production is emotionally engaging as well as provocative.
